new Evelyn Champagne KingI'm In Love/The Other Side Of Love ... 12-inch
RCA, 1981. Used .... $5.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Kashif penned this catchy little tune for Evelyn Champagne King – really helping her find her groove in the 80s with a sweet flurry of electric beats, keyboard parts, and plenty of bass! The vocals are totally great – right in pace with the rhythms, but warmer overall – all showing that magic King touch!

new Evelyn KingI'm In Love (with bonus tracks) ... CD
RCA/Big Break (UK), 1981. New Copy .... $10.99 Out Of Stock
One of the real standouts in Evelyn King's career – a sharply focused album that's filled with catchy 80s styled tunes – and which benefits from some great help from a young Kashif! Lots of the tracks have that great flair for a catchy hook that mark's Evelyn's best work – an approach that's never too slick or too forced, and which has a comfortable way of sliding into a tune. Titles include "I'm In Love", "What Are You Waiting For", "If You Want My Lovin", "I Can't Take It", "The Best Is Yet To Come", and "The Other Side Of Love". This Big Break UK remastered edition has 5 bonus tracks: "I'm In Love", "Don't Hide Our Love" and "Spirit Of The Dancer" (all single versions), "If You Want My Lovin (UK Single Version)" and "I'm In Love (12" Dance Mix)".

Various — Steppin Across The USA – Volume 12 ... CD
Steppin Muzak, Late 70s/1980s/Early 90s. New Copy .... $9.99
Those Chicago steppers are at it again – working their way across the USA, and picking up a fresh range of grooves in the process! As on previous volumes, the tunes are a mix of older soul and a few contemporary numbers – with a heavy sprinkling of 80s cuts, showing a bit of a shift on the steppers scene as it moves away from the 60s! Titles include "Not Ready" by Con Funk Shun, "Love's A Merry Go Round" by Juicy, "Ride Your Pony Girl" by The Moments, "Still Got The Magic" by Michael Wycoff, "Love U 2 The Limit" by Mac Band, "The Show Is Over" by Evelyn Champagne King, "Walking With You" by East Coast Offering, "Can't Let Go (inst)" by Tony Terry, "Is This For Real" by O'Bryan, and "You & Me" by Jamm.

new Various — Wild Bunch – Story Of A Sound System ... CD
Strut (UK), 1980s. Used .... $8.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
A crunchy batch of grooves from one of the hippest British soundsystems ever! The Wild Bunch were a Bristol-based collective dedicated to spinning the best in underground hip hop and club tracks – a group whose members included Roni Size, Tricky, Krust, and future members of Massive Attack, represented here by DJ Milo, who's come up with a fantastic batch of tracks that perfectly sums up their genius blend of styles and rough-edged groove! The CD version of the set features a continuous mix of tracks by Milo – 26 tunes laid out back to back, bumping and jumping through a set list that includes "It's Yours" by T La Rock, "Just Rhymin With Biz" by Big Daddy Kane & Biz Markie, "We Rap More Mellow" by Younger Generation, "It's Your Rock" by Fantasy, "Rock Shock" by BBCS &A, "Who Needs Enemies With Friends Like You" by Montana Sextet, "The Music Got Me" by Visual, "Dance Freak" by Chain Reaction, "DJ's Delight" by Ingram, "Love Rap" by Spoonie G, "Double Fresh" by The Wild Bunch, "Inside Out" by Odyssey, "I'm In Love" by Evelyn Champagne King, "Smurph Across The Surf" by Micronawts, "Dyin To Be Dancin" by Empress, "Can You Feel It" by Mr Fingers, and "It's Serious" by Cameo.

Misty Moore — This Girl's In Love With You ... LP
Pzazz, Late 60s. Very Good .... $2.99
Misty's got a look on the cover that makes her look like she might have come across on the casting couch in order to get a record deal – but the album's a nice one that takes her sexy promise and backs it up with a nicely groovy late 60s blend of pop and jazz! There's a number of unusual tunes on the set that make it stand out a bit more than just a usual set of covers and standards – and backings occasionally have some nice jazzy touches, especially on the tracks arranged by Ronnell Bright. Other arrangements are by Evelyn Freeman, and titles include "A Moment More", "When Summer Dies", "Don't Mail The Letter", "Windy Curtains", "More Than The Eye Can See", and "The World's Still Round".
(White label promo. Spine has one spot of old tape. Back cover has WGN Library letters.)

Various — George Harrison – Letra & Musica ... CD
Discobertas (Brazil), 2011. New Copy .... $15.99
Great versions of tunes penned by George Harrison – all of them by Brazilian artists, and most of them of older vintage too! Given that Harrison often wrote some of the edgiest tunes of The Beatles, the recordings here are already on good footing – and given that the collection does a great job of picking cuts from older albums of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s – then throwing in a few more recent recordings – the scope of material is pretty darn great! Most tracks still have the lyrics in English, but a few feature Portuguese lyrics instead – and the set features versions of "Taxman" by Meire Pavao, "Don't Bother Me" by The Bells, "Te Adoro" by Golden Boys & The Fevers, "That Is All" by Hevelyn Costa, "Something" by Evinha, "I Need You" by Rosa Maria, "My Sweet Lord" by Chitaozinho & Xororo, "Love Comes To Everyone" by Zizi Possi, and "Piggies" by Twiggy & Andreas Kisser's Lostapes.

Various — Paul McCartney – Letra & Musica ... CD
Discobertas (Brazil), 2011. New Copy .... $15.99
The music of Paul McCartney – not only given a Brazilian twist, but a feminine one as well! The set features a host of fresh reworkings of Paul's best compositions – mostly Beatles' tunes, and really done in some compelling new versions – hardly covers at all, and more like completely new ideas that are formed from the original songwriting! Some tracks are vintage, and a lot more are more recent recordings – and all are pretty darn great – hardly what you'd expect at all on an album like this. Titles include "Eleanor Rigby" by Cassia Eller, "I Will" by Erika Martins, "And I Love Him" by Rita Lee, "My Love" by Leila Pinheiro, "Girlfriend" by Liah, "I Am Your Singer" by Hevelyn Costa, "Suicide" by Twiggy, "Here There & Everywhere" by Gal Costa, and "Ob La Di Ob La Da" by Pato Fu.

George Braith — Musart ... CD
1967. New Copy .... Around July 2, 2013
One of the most excellent records ever on Prestige, and one of our favorite LPs ever! The great reed player George Braith lays down a set of moody dark tracks with backing by a group that includes a lot of percussion, electric guitar, electric bass, and, on one track, backing by a choir of female voices. Braith get's an excellent sound from his assortment of horns (C-melody sax, alto, and soprano), and his playing here is unlike that on any of his other records (although all of those are great as well!) He's moved past the Roland Kirk vibe he had, and isn't playing that funky. Instead, he's got this great moody sound, with a really searching quality to his solos, and an emotional tone throughout. The set is filled with incredible tracks that have a nice laidback groove, assorted percussion, and haunting edgey solos by Braith. Cuts include "Del's Theme", "Musart", "Evelyn Anita", and "Splashes Of Love".
(On the Dusty Groove label.)
