Evan RogersLove Games (with bonus tracks) ... CD
RCA/FTG, 1985. Used ... $8.99
A pretty sweet 80s synth/pop/funk/R&B set by Evan Rogers – a few years after his time in the funky soul group Dayton (which is what we know Evan best for around here) – a mid 80s album that's heavy with the synthy sounds of the era and highlighted by some catchy songs and Evan's genuinely great voice! There's a song here called "Don't Jump To Conclusions", and that could be the unofficial motto after you see Evan's uber 80s coif and style on the cover – but this is a really fun record worth checking out! His voice is warm and genuinely soulful and the songs are insistent as can be. Includes "Hold On", a cool cover of Prince's "Private Joy" with some searing guitar as a counterweight to the electro soundscapes, "Full-Time Lover", "Sweet 16", "1-Track Mind", "Be Mine Tonight" and more. This 2011 edition from FTG has 3 bonus tracks: "Secret Love (12" Version)", "Stay Here With Me (12" Version)" and "Hold On (Remix)". CD

New VariousNighttime Lovers Vol 15 – A Fine Collection Of Disco Funk Classics Of The 80s ... CD
PTG (Netherlands), Early 80s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Nighttime Lovers? Nighttime Groovers is more like it – as the package is filled with plenty of sweet cuts for the dancefloor – especially if you like your grooves with an 80s flavor! The set selection is every bit as wonderful as previous volumes in this longstanding series – really well-chosen album cuts and 12" singles that represent the hipper side of the 80s groove scene – tracks with sophisticated soul leanings, jazzy musical elements, and still a pretty good amount of beats and keyboards in the rhythms! Titles include "You're A Good Girl" by Lillo Thomas, "You've Reached The Bottom Line" by Carol Williams, "Easier Said Than Done" by Bryan Loren, "Emergency" by Loose Ends, "I Don't Know" by Lanier & Co, "Stay Here With Me" by Evan Rogers, "Can't Fight The Feeling" by Sugar, "Never Give Up On You" by Marlena Shaw, and "I Owe It To Myself" by Prime Time.
