Ebo Taylor — Ebo Taylor (180 gram vinyl with download) ... LP
Essiebons/Mr Bongo (UK), 1977. New Copy .... $32.99
Ebo Taylor at his finest – stepping out here in a wicked set of work from the 70s – filled with upbeat rhythms, sweet instrumental touches, and a heck of a lot of soul! There's a bubbling undercurrent in the rhythms that's almost Caribbean at times, yet the overall groove is a lot sharper too – a warm blend of percussion, guitar, and some mighty sweet keyboards – often peppered with bits of saxophone lines, and topped with lyrics that move nicely along with the groove. Rhythms are mostly in a midtempo mode – a few steps mellower than traditional Afro Funk – which furthers the unique feel of the record, and seems to only deepen Ebo Taylor's soulful intentions! Titles include "Heaven", "Ohye Atar Gyan", "Bra", "Saana", and "Amponsah".
(Includes MP3 download.)

new Ebo Taylor — Conflict (180 gram vinyl with download) ... LP
Essiebons/Mr Bongo (UK), 1980. New Copy .... $32.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Beautiful work from the great Ebo Taylor – long tracks filled with the kind of grooves that have made him a funky favorite over the years – and which have kept him going strong into the 21st Century! There's a really unique feel to this record – lots of jazzy inflections that go way beyond some of the standard riffing of Afro Funk – underscored by this positive energy that's a bit hard to describe, but which comes through right away on first listen – almost some of the righteousness of the American spiritual underground, but definitely more Afro-styled overall. Instrumentation features some great tenor, alto, and flute – and guitars and keyboards are handled by Ebo himself. Titles include "You Need Love", "Love & Death", "What Is Life", and "Victory".
(Includes MP3 download.)

new Rob — Make It Fast Make It Slow ... LP
Essiebons/Soundway (UK), 1977. New Copy .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
The second album from Ghanaian funk singer, composer and arranger Rob – issued for the first time ever outside of Ghana, thanks to the deep diggers at Soundway! Rob sings in English throughout – and there's a slinky, slow-cooking, kinda strange groove on most of the numbers – a mix of funk with lots of offbeat, oddball touches – of the sort that some folks these days might dub Afro Psych – but which was just pretty darn experimental back in the day! Rhythms are heavy on guitar, bass, and drums – and plenty of offbeat percussion – all topped with some great heavy horns too. The memorable title track is one of the most unique Afro Funk songs you could ever hope to hear – , with dexterous opening horn blasts, clattering bell-like percussion, and undeniably carnal English vocals – and the rest of the album's pretty darn amazing too! Other titles include "Loose Up Yourself" "Not The End", "I've Got To See You Again Lord", "He Shall Live In You", "But You", "Bargain" and "Back On You".
