Tony Allen — Moyege (Mark's mix, Mark's disco dub) ... 12-inch
Honest Jons (UK), 2006. New Copy .... $10.99
One of the slinkier grooves we've heard in recent years from Tony Allen – served up here in 2 mixes that both make the most of the track's snakey guitar! There's a bit more atmospherics here than heavy beats – and the tune is less of a driving Afro Funk number than a snakey cut that sounds especially well suited for the dub mix here!

Beginning Of The End/Willie Johnson/Clarence Reid — Come On Baby (Kenny Dope edit)/Lay It On Me/'Till I Get My Share ... 12-inch
Kay Dee, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue).... $6.99
Kenny Dope takes on the funkiest sounds of the Miami Soul generation – on a single that's got more heavy funk than most full albums! Side one features a great edit of Beginning Of The End's "Come On Baby" (aka "Come Down Baby") – a groove that's just as heavy as their famous "Funky Nassau", and done with a similar blend of choppy guitar, romping rhythms, and blasting horns! Next up is Willie Johnson's amazing "Lay It On Me" – a tune that's got a really amazing bassline – one that moves faster than anything in the tune – including the blasting horns and rip-shot drums! And last is "Till I Get My Share" – one of the funkiest tunes ever from Clarence Reid – a hard and heavy number that feels a lot like the best Syl Johnson work for Twinight!

Bird — Mermaid 3000 (single edit, Rascal mix, inst) ... 12-inch
Sony (Japan), 2001. Near Mint- (pic cover).... $6.99
An excellent upbeat club number – sung in Japanese by the lovely Bird, and produced by Shinichi Osawa of Mondo Grosso. The track's probably one of our favorites from Bird's latest LP – and it's got these kick-start beats at the beginning that are mixed with burst of strings that sound totally great. The vocals are extremely soulful, and mix in with these keyboard lines that percolate the track – swirling together in a way that makes the cut instantly compelling!

Black Renaissance/GB — Luv N Haight Edit Series Vol 4 – Magic Ritual (GB Remix, original) (clear vinyl – with download) ... 12-inch
Luv N' Haight, Mid 70s/2013. New Copy .... $9.99
A spiritual jazz classic by Harry Whitaker's Black Renaissance – plus a trippy GB remix on the other side! The original version of "Magic Ritual" is here in full – and it's essentially half of the group's classic Body, Mind And Spirit LP – a legendary session that features just 2 long tracks –done Strata East-like style, peppered with voices, both sung and spoken, in a hip, socially conscious mode. On the other side, GB uses the original's elements craft a spacey electro groover that's really in realm of its own! A haunting and heavily percussive trip!
(Limited edition on clear vinyl. Includes download.)

Boogie Down Productions — Why Is That (ext edit, single edit, inst)/Who Protects Us From You? ... 12-inch
Jive, 1989. Very Good+ .... $2.99
Two cuts from the Edutainment LP. KRS asks "Who Protects Us From You?" over spare dancehall sythesizers and on "Why Is That" KRS applies his exegesis of the Pentateuch to today's educational system with a dope piano line.
(Promo in a stickered sleeve.)

First single from their second LP, "God Squad." Apocalyptic themes with an almost Hiero sound to the rhymes and production.

Brooklyn Express — Are You Ready (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
BC, Late 70s/Early 80s. Very Good .... $9.99
Another nice track from Began Cekic, with a helping hand from Tee Scott. The groove's popping early 80s sound has a crisp midtempo almost roller skating vibe.

George Clinton — Nubian Nut/Free Alterations ... 12-inch
Capitol, 1983. Very Good+ (pic cover).... $2.99
"Nubian Nut" is more of the Atomic Dog formula – kind of a popping bass groove that was the inherited legacy of P-funk that every other band was ripping off at the time, and rap-like vocals that George would probably never claim were rap! "Free Alterations" is the real charmer here – a sweet mellow soul track with a midtempo stepping groove, great harmony vocals, and a sound that's very different than any other Clinton tune we can think of!

Common Sense — Just Can't Help Myself (I Really Love You) (short version, long version) ... 12-inch
BC, 1980. Very Good+ .... $19.99
A great 80s groove single, with a slightly more mainstream soul approach than we'd expect from Began Cekic, but without sacrficing any club appeal!

Darondo/Tall Black Guy & Dandy Teru — Luv N Haight Edit Series Vol 5 – I Don't Want To Leave (Tall Black Guy's Sure Know How To Love Me Re-Edit, original) ... 12-inch
Luv N' Haight, Early 70s/2013. New Copy .... $9.99
Legendary Bay Area soul numbers by Darondo – as re-edited/remixed/liberally-adapted by Tall Black Guy and Dandy Teru! First up is Tall Black Guy's take on "I Don't Want To Leave" – which uses Darando's "Sure Know How To Love Me" as it's source material. The breezy, easygoing vibe of the original carries over pretty well onto it – with a think bass sound and a tripper, spacey club soul vibe. On the flip, Dandy Teru's "Untrue" is just as free of an interpetation – using strains of Darondo's "True" a soulful springboard into the cosmos.

new DJ Riz — DJ Riz Live From Brooklyn (part 1, part 2)/Riz Meets Biz ... 12-inch
Stimulated, 1999. Near Mint- .... $6.99
A classic mix of breaks and samples that scream late 90s New York. Riz has been on the scene forever as a member of Crooklyn Clan, and his experience as a DJ really shows on this one. The mixing is SOLID, all the transitions, cuts, and blends are flawless, and the continuity is unmatched. This is possibly the best example of a break mix next to The Lessons and Brainfreeze. If you're a fan of Kon & Amir or DJ Muro, this one is a no-brainer. Also included is an amusing phone dialogue between Riz and the legendary Biz Markie.
(In a stickered sleeve.)

Tony Allen — Ole (Moritz Von Oswald rmx)/Ise Nla (Reggae Land dub) ... 12-inch
2007. New Copy .... $11.99 Around March 1, 2013 (delayed)
A very dubby remix of this tune by Tony Allen – one that features plenty of brooding basslines amidst the percussion! The track almost takes us back to some of the first few Tony Allen singles during his Comet Records comeback years in the 90s – and Moritz Von Oswald brings a nicely abstracted feel to the music. "Ise Nla" is fairly dubby too – but in a very different way, and one that has all the Jamaican flavors you might guess from the title – including a bit of echoey horns over the top!
