Rosario Giuliani on alto and soprano sax, Flavio Boltro on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dado Moroni on piano, Remi Vignolo on bass, and Benjamin Henocq on drums. CD
A really haunting bit of early electronics by Jean Michel Jarre – the soundtrack for the film Les Granges Brulees from the early 70s! The work here has a very different sound than Jarre's later music – not nearly so neat and tidy, with lots of rough edges, and shorter tunes that have a really kind of spooky, other-wordly feel. And yet despite these qualities, there's also a good degree of melody to the set – as the shorter tracks bubble forth with some great themes that sound even more enchanting in the analogue electronic mode. Titles include "L'Helicoptere", "La Chanson Des Granges Brulees", "Le Pays De Rose", "Theme De L'Argent", "Rose", "Les Granges Brulees", and "La Verite". CD

Eddy Louiss/Kenny Clarke/Rene Thomas —
Eddy Louiss Trio ... CD Dreyfus (France), Late 60s. Used ...
Out Of Stock
Great work by one of the best European organists ever! Eddy Louiss is a massively under-acknowledged talent – a whiz on the Hammond with the soul of Jimmy Smith and John Patton, and the freewheeling vision of Larry Young – and this record is a perfect chance to hear him at his best. The setting is spare – just drums by Kenny Clarke and guitar by Rene Thomas – and Eddy's grooving in an open exploratory style that never forgets to swing, and which reaches towards the sky on some really nice modal lines! Titles include "No Smoking", "Don't Want Nothin", "Nardis", "Blue Tempo", and "You've Changed". CD
Features Randy Brecker, Bobby Watson, Conrad Herwig, John Hicks, and others. Tracks include "It Was A Lonely Day In Selma, Alabama", "Haitian Fight Song", "Don't Let It Happen Here", and "Meditations For A Pair Of Wire-Cutters". CD

Includes the songs "Love Is A Dangerous Necessity", "Noon Night", "Tonight At Noon", "Eclipse", "Invisible Lady", "Passions Of A Woman Loved", "Sweet Sucker", "Dance", "Devil Woman","Love's Fury", and "The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady". CD

Steve Grossman —

Steve Grossman on tenor sax – with Barry Harris on piano, Reggie Johnson on bass, and Art Taylor on drums. CD
A key comeback album for legendary drummer Roy Haynes – a session that brought him back firmly into the limelight of jazz, and established a level of quality that would follow on many great records for years to come! Part of the strength of the set is due to a young Craig Handy – who plays both tenor and soprano sax here with a clean, clear, and unfettered sound – one that's steeped in soulful jazz traditions, but which also has all the fresh energy of youth. Pianist David Kikoski's work on the set is also pretty great too – especially on the more powerful numbers, which really take off on keyboard lines of flight. Titles include "Steps", "Sumemr Nights", "Sippin At Bells", "I Thought About You", "Anniversary", and "Bye Ya". CD
