new Vickie Baines — Country Girl/Are You Kidding ... 7-inch
Outta Sight (UK), 1965. New Copy .... $7.99 Out Of Stock
A stone Philly stormer from Vickie Baines – hardly the "country" promised in the title! The tune begins with this monotone bassline that's mighty nice – then rolls into piano lines and Vickie's marvelously soaring vocals! The flipside's great too – more of a midtempo stepper, with some excellent vibes that ring out beautifully in the middle!

new DeRobert & The Half-Truths — I Got Burned/Nashville Country Bump ... 7-inch
GED Soul, 2012. New Copy .... $5.99 Out Of Stock
Wonderfully heavy funk from DeRobert & The Half-Truths – a tune that may be the group's best to date! "I Got Burned" has this wicked JBs-type groove right at the start – that sharp mix of downbeats and horns that combo did so well – all a perfect foil for DeRobert's soulfully trilling vocals! "Nashville Country Bump" has a great groove that's very much what you might expect – a hip blend of Tennessee roots and harder funk – all instrumental, and with lots of twangy guitar!

new Wanda Jackson — Funnel Of Love/Whirlpool ... 7-inch
Fryer (UK), Late 50s. New Copy .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
Raw work from the legendary Wanda Jackson – the kind of R&B-styled work that really made Jackson stand out from the rest! Wanda may have country in her blood, but she's plenty gritty here – stepping out on a massive dark groove on "Funnel Of Love", sung with really nasty vocals – and slinking around with a cool vamping groove on "Whirlpool" – a number that sucks you in right from the start!

new Joe Johnson — Rattlesnake Baby Rattlesnake/Gold Diggin Man ... 7-inch
Jazzman (UK), Mid 60s. New Copy .... $8.99 Out Of Stock
Wow! "Rattlesnake Baby Rattlesnake" is a KILLER R&B number from Joe Johnson – starting out with the slinkiest, coolest and moodiest percussive rhythm to start it – before Joe growls and the guitar leads the way for the horns and the whole groove to crash on in. From there, it's a catchy dancefloor stormer. We wish this one got the whole country doing the rattlesnake! "Gold Diggin' Man" is great, too – with a drum heavy bottom end, slinky guitar groove and tight horn bursts behind Joe's wailing vocals.
