Claudine LongetColours ... CD
A&M/Elemental (Spain), 1968. New Copy ... $13.99
The colors are rich, but gentle too – like a palette of pastels, all sung by the lovely Claudine Longet! The album's got a slightly more mature feel than some of Longet's first for A&M – great Nick DeCaro arrangements that show some of the deeper elements creeping into pop at the end of the 60s – including some surprising use of acoustic guitar, which really helps transform the sound, and brings out an earthy, natural quality that makes Claudine sound sexier than ever! The sessions feature work by Randy Newman, Lyle Ritz, and Ron Elliott – and titles include "Pussywillows Cattails", "Catch The Wind", "Colours", "Bobbie (For Baby)", and "Hurry On Down". CD

✨✧ Claudine LongetDigitally Remastered Best Of Claudine Longet ... CD
A&M (Japan), Late 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A totally great collection of work by this enigmatic singer from the 60s! Claudine's got a very lovely voice – as you may already know – and it was a perfect match for the breathy breezy easy studio talents of the great A&M label. Her recordings for A&M during the late 60s are still some of the best pop vocal tracks to ever come out of LA – and this nicely remastered CD features 24 great tracks from Claudine's now out of print LPs – including "Walk In The Park", "Happy Talk", "Sleep Safe & Warm", "A Man & A Woman", "Hello, Hello", "Snow", "Lazy Summer Night", and "I Don't Intend To Spend Christmas Without You". ✨✧ Nick DeCaroItalian Graffiti ... CD
MCA (Japan), 1974. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite records of all time! We've got to admit, this one's an acquired taste, but if you dig cool LA studio pop from the early 70's, this record's a real treasure! Nick DeCaro was probably best known to the world as an instrumental arranger for A&M (he did a lot of the Claudine Longet albums), but this record from the early 70's has him singing in a set of cool spacey tracks that mix studio pop and jazz for a sound that's unlike anything else we've ever heard before. Nick's backed by a tight group that includes LA jazz players like Arthur Adams, Wilton Felder, Paul Humphrey, Harvey Mason, and David T. Walker – and the sound is very compressed, very laidback, and very very hip. Tracks include "Under The Jamaican Moon", "Wailing Wall", and great versions of "Getting Mighty Crowded" and Stevie Wonder's "Angie Girl". Remember, it's an acquired taste, but if you like stuff like middle period Steely Dan or Maria Muldaur, you'll really dig this one! CD

✨✧ Sonia Rosa with Sadao WatanabeSensitive Sound Of Sonia Rosa – Bossa Nova Greatest Hits with Sadao Watanabe Quartet ... CD
Express/Vivid (Japan), Mid 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Lovely little bossa nova tracks from singer Sonia Roza – a vocalist who's so sensitive, her vocals almost take second stage to the jazzy backings in the set! And the backings are especially nice – given that they're served up by the quartet of Sadao Watanabe – which features some great flute and guitar on most of the tracks! Some tunes have just a bit of light added strings, but never too much – and although Sonia often sings in English, she does so with an accented style that's completely charming – a fair bit like Claudine Longet at her early A&M best. Titles include "The Look Of Love", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Secret Love", "Tristeza", "The Girl From Ipanema", "Desafinado", and "Meditation" – all done in a really great dreamy mode! CD

✨✧ VariousEasy Christmas Now – Groovy Carols For A Cozy Winter ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), 1960s/1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully groovy set of Christmas tracks – one done in a style very similar to the Get Easy Snow compilations – as you might guess from the title! The selection here is great – with a few perennial favorites, a few rare gems, and a great middle stretch of wonderful bits from some of the grooviest artists of the 60s and 70s – a great antidote to some of the too-played holiday music you might hear during the 12th month of the year! Titles include "Santa Claus Is Definitely Hear To Stay" by James Brown, "Close Your Mouth It's Christmas" by Free Design, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" by Jimmy McGriff, "Snow" by Claudine Longet, "Black Christmas" by The Emotions, "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" by The Temptations, "Christmas Gift" by Margie Joseph, "Winter Warm" by Bob Crewe Generation, "Snow Flakes" by The Ventures, "Winter Symphony" by The Beach Boys, "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway, "Children Go Where I Send Thee" by Kenny Burrell, "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" by Ray Anthony & His Bookends, "Swinging Christmas" by Helmut Zacharias, and "Jingo Jango" by Bert Kaempfert.
