David Grant — David Grant (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Chrysalis/Big Break (UK), 1983. New Copy .... $14.99
Sweetly grooving early 80s UK soul from David Grant – his first solo album after the breakup of Linx – and it's a nice one! There's a leaner pop soul sound at play here, one that would have sounded right at home on the US charts of the time – but it's never too poppy – and always with David's genuinely soulful voice out front. The songs are of pretty solid, with some uptempo numbers and some more ballad-y tunes – the latter of which are really nice! Includes "Rock The Midnight", "Love Will Find A Way", "Stop And Go", "Organize", "Watching You, Watching Me", Holding On", "In The Flow Of Love", "Wrap Yourself Around Me" and more. This Big Break CD edition has a healthy batch of bonus tracks and alternate versions – 9 in all: "Stop And Go (12" Master Mix)", "Love Will Find A Way (Single Version)", "Kiss Away The Blues", "Klik Trax", :Rick The Midnight (Single Version)" and more.

Jellybean — Just Visiting This Planet (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Chrysalis/Cherry Pop (UK), 1987. New Copy .... $13.99
A nice one from producer, songwriter, remixer and pop soul force of nature Jellybean – his first album for Chrysalis! It's actually not as out there and spacey as you'd expect from the title – but there really was no one quite like Jellybean in this planet in the 80s. Former Contortionists singer Adele Bertei sings on half of the record – and it's a pretty sweet and unique mix of pop, soul and dance! Includes "Little Too Good To Me", "Who Found Who", "Just A Mirage", "The Real Thing", "Walking In My Sleep", "Hypnotized By (Your Touch)", "Jingo" and "Am I Dreaming". This Cherry Pop CD edition has 5 bonus tracks – 7" and 12" mixes including "Who Found Who (US Club Mix)", "Just A Mirage (12" Remix), a dance mix of the earlier crossover smash "Sidewalk Talk".

Light Of The World — Round Trip (plus bonus tracks) ... CD
Chrysalis/EMI (UK), 1980. New Copy .... $12.99
A Brit soul classic from Light Of The World – and a set that has the funky group working strongly with producer Augie Johnson! Given Johnson's background with Wayne Henderson, the move is a great one for the group – one that really helps them bring out the best warm sounds from their tight instrumentation, in ways that really showcase some of the jazzier elements in their music! The main groove is still plenty soulful, and often focused around the vocals – but given that the group also features a young Jean Paul "Bluey" Maunick on guitar and Peter Hinds on keyboards, you can bet the instrumentation's pretty great too. The set easily matches the best US albums of the type at the time – and titles include "London Town", "Time", "I'm So Happy", "More Of Myself", "Pete's Crusade", and "I Walk The Streets Alone". CD also features 7 more bonus tracks – pulled from the Brass Strings N Things live album recorded by Beggar & Co – a post-Light Of The World group that features members of that group with artists from Central Line and vocalist Noel McKoy. These live titles include "Time", "Movin", "Bahia De Palma", "Somebody Help Me Out", and "Cosmic Lust".

Linx — Intuition ... LP
Chrysalis, 1981. Sealed .... $2.99
A mixture of fusion and soul – with some hard-jamming tracks that bring sometimes brings more of a focus on the groove than the vocals – and other cuts that steer it into a solid pop soul approach! There's a warmth and depth to the production and the songwriting that's a pretty big step away from some of the more synthy sounding soul efforts of the era – definitely giving this album a lift! Paul Jackson Jr plays a bit of guest guitar with the group – and Ollie E Brown drums a bit and produces a few of the tracks. Titles include "Together We Can Shine", "Intuition", "You're Lying", "Throw Away The Key", "There's Love", "Rise & Shine", and "Count On Me".
(Cover has a cut corner, a crease, and some wear.)

2 Tone/Chrysalis, 1984. Very Good- (pic cover).... $2.99
One of the numerous politically motivated singles aimed at South Africa's then apartheid government in the mid-80s, this one brought to you by Jerry Dammers' post Specials group featuring the English Beat's Ranking Rogers and produced by Elvis Costello, with an uptempo ska inflected groove!
(Cover has marker on both sides,a few creases, and a sticker on the spine.)

Steeleye Span — Another Parcel Of Steeleye Span – Rocket Cottage/Storm Force Ten/Live At Last/Sails Of Silver/Tempted & Tried (with bonus tracks)(3 CD set) ... CD
Chrysalis/EMI (UK), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy 3 CDs .... $16.99
The second chapter of Steeleye Span on Chrysalis Records – and a set that still has the group hewing strongly to the acoustic roots of their early years! At a time when many of their contemporaries were tempted to go for more commercial, more mainstream modes, Steeleye Span only seemed to get more traditional – really holding onto the Celtic folk roots that made them so great in the first place – with amazing lead vocals from the legendary Maddy Prior, and strong vocal support from other group members Tim Hart, Bob Johnson, Rick Kemp, and Peter Knight – who all seem to have really learned how to harmonize together over the years. The set features one live album and four studio sets – the full records Rocket Cottage, Storm Force Ten, Live At Last, Sails Of Silver, and Tempted & Tried – a whopping 47 tracks in all!

Stump — Fierce Pancake ... LP
Chrysalis, 1988. Very Good .... $4.99
Wild twanginess from this off-beat group that included Kev Hopper on bass and samples. This was the one that was supposed to make them stars, but instead got them shackled to an unfortunate major label contract that smothered them. Too bad, but the records got some nice moments like "Charlton Heston", "Bone", "Buffalo", "Living It Down", and "Alcohol".
(US promo pressing. Cover has a promo stamp, ring & edge wear, call letters in marker on both sides, splitting on the spine, and an album review taped to the front. Labels have some marker.)

new Blondie — Autoamerican ... LP
Chrysalis, 1980. Used .... $4.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Out of New York rock and roll ideas, Debbie Harry decides to pilfer the subcultures to make her sound a bit more interesting! Fortunately for us, she got some help from guitar maestro Chris Stein on the track "Rapture" – and Stein's real interest in the music gave it a stone old school groove that's held up pretty well over the years! More famously, Harry went for a bit of reggae on the track "The Tide Is High" – taking Duke Reid's original, and turning it into a global hit!

new Jethro Tull — Living In The Past/Witch's Promise/Teacher (UK version 2013 mix)/Life Is A Long Song (2013 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Chrysalis/EMI (Italy), 1972. New Copy (pic cover).... $13.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of our favorite tunes ever from Jethro Tull – a cool jazzy number that's almost more Herbie Mann or Harold McNair than the usual Tull groove! The bluesy bottom really drops out of the group's sound – and instead a hip bassline sets the tune up nicely for some sweet solo flute, and these catchy lyrics that are some of the most hook-heavy that Ian Anderson's ever sung! Limited pic sleeve EP also features "Witch's Promise", "Life Is A Long Song", and "Teacher (UK version 2013 mix)".
(Limited edition European Record Store Day release!)

new Specials — More Specials ... CD
Chrysalis, 1980. Used .... $3.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
The second great set from The Specials – music once billed as "revival ska" – but which has arguably gone onto have a bigger impact than the first wave of the genre! There's a rough edged quality to the music that's totally great – a rude boy aesthetic filtered through the post-punk generation – perfect for the spare, earthy Two Tone production – and just right for a post-colonial London, looking for new ways to express itself! The studio work is as great as the core grooves from the band – lots of odd echoes and cool effects – kind of a Brit take on Kingston dub, served up beautifully to abstract the tunes. So many others ruined this approach in later years with weaker work – but here's a chance to hear it perfectly in an original conception! Titles include "International Jet Set", "Enjoy Yourself", "Stereotypes", "Holiday Fortnight", and "I Can't Stand It".

new Blondie — Rapture (special disco mix)/Live It Up (special disco mix) ... 12-inch
Chrysalis, 1981. Used (pic cover).... $5.99 Out Of Stock
It's 1981 and everyone from Queen to Blondie is taking a turn at coming up with a disco hit, and actually doing a pretty decent job of it, too! While we wince every time Debbie Harry decides to take her turn "rapping" on this early 80s crossover hit, you've got to give it up to her for trying, and besides, the hip community embraced her well enough to at least make a character in Wild Style look like her, and you can't argue with the track's infectious groove – plus this special disco mix version has an extended break section in the middle!
(French pressing. Cover has some wear, with some bending in the corners.)

new Debbie Harry — Kookoo (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Chrysalis/Gold Legion, 1981. New Copy .... $11.99 14.98 Out Of Stock
A nice change in sound for Debbie Harry – thanks to Chic production from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards – who really help the solo singer find a groove that's quite different than her work in Blondie! The style's a mixture of the funky club that Chic did so well, with elements that lean a bit more towards an early 80s rockish dancefloor – almost with a vibe that echoes some of the UK imports trickling over to these shores at the time, but with a definite New York vibe underneath! The setting gives Harry's vocals a great way to hit a more playful nature – that sound that was creeping in a bit in Blondie, but which some folks thought was wrong for the group – and Chris Stein is still on hand to bring in some street-sensitive riffing guitar. Titles include "Backfired", "Military Rap", "Oasis", "Surrender", "Chrome", "Jump Jump", and "The Jam Was Moving". CD features 3 bonus tracks – "Backfired (special long version)", "The Jam Was Moving (extended)", and "Inner City Spillover (extended)".
