new Jack Arel — Chappell Recorded Music Library Works – Originals & Remixes ... CD
Chappell/Vadim (France), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2CD .... $11.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
A long-overdue collection of work from the legendary Jack Arel – one of the lesser-known sound library composers of the late 60s and early 70s – but a true giant in his funky field, as you'll hear by the great music on this set! Arel is French, but he often wrote for British sources – including the Prisoner TV show – so his music has a great blend of Parisian pop modes and chunkier London beats – a style that almost mixes together some of the funkier jazz sensibilities of the sound library generation with the tighter, more romping rhythms that were usually penned for TV and commercial use. The first half of this set features 25 originals by Arel – some in collaboration with Pierre Dutor or Jean-Claude Petit – and often done with trippier touches that include fuzzy guitar or funky flute! The second half features remixes of the originals – tunes that are often a bit longer, and almost restructured as whole new songs. Originals include "Shore Of Sumatra", "Sideral Rhythmic", "De Paris A Liverpool", "Jungle Soul", "Game Trap", "Picture Of Summer", "Train Bleu", "Strange Galaxy", and "Sundown". Remixes include "Drugstore Party" remixed by Le Tone, "Jungle Soul" remixed by Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra, "The Night Squad" by Danny Wild & Goldfinger, "Loco Robo" by Luke Vibert, "Chicago Girl" remixed by Barth, "Electric Railman" remixed Mowo, and "Crystal Abyss" by Telepopmusik.

Ronnie Foster — Live At Montreux ... CD
Blue Note (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $15.99
A really amazing album from keyboardist Ronnie Foster – one of his hippest of the 70s, and even quite different from his other work for Blue Note! The album features Foster on organ, in a really open, fluid live setting – working on these stretched-out tracks with a small combo – all in ways that are as completely sublime as his Two-Headed Freap album – yet with a very different groove! The sounds from Foster's fingers are amazing – spacey and soulful, yet with this cosmic sort of beauty – soaring to the skies with Larry Young-ish energy at points, but kicking back with a gentle groove at others. The trio features work by Greg Miller on guitar and Marvin Chappell on drums – and titles include an incredible take on Seals & Crofts' "East Of Ginger Trees" – plus the cuts "Chunky", "Boogie Juice", and "Sameness".

new Various — Dave Chappelle's Block Party ... CD
Geffen, 2006. Used .... $2.99 Out Of Stock
The soundtrack album to the concert film Dave Chappelle's Block Party! As in the film, the tracks are live and unvarnished – making this an honest snapshot of the day, with a few interludes and transitional material added to make it gel. It doesn't include all of the performances of the film, but most of the things left off the soundtrack are bits by acts that already have just about all the cache they need. Includes 12 live performances including "Hip Hop" by Dead Prez, "Definition" by Black Star, "Golden" by Jill Scott, "Universal Magnetic" by Mos Def, "Blast" by Talib Kweli feat Erykah Badu, "Boom" by The Roots feat Big Daddy Kane, "They Way" by Jill Scott, "The Light" by Common feat Badu & Bilal and more.
