An assortment of early 50s recordings by The Chordettes – easily one of the most heavenly groups ever to record in pop music! The quartet first had their roots in barbershop harmony, but soon stepped into much more sophisticated territory with these recordings for Cadence Records – sides that are perhaps best remembered for the hit "Mr Sandman", but which are pretty darn interesting throughout! The style's a bit sweeter and a bit less modern than work by The Four Freshmen or The Hi-Los from the 50s, but it's also no less compelling – and The Chordettes were one of the few female groups of the time to sing in such a way, making them a real standout. Tracks here sometimes feature additional instrumentation, usually on rhythm – but often the recordings are nearly acapella, and base all the song structures simply on the amazing vocals by the lovely ladies in the group! CD features 16 titles in all – including "Mr Sandman", "We Three", "San", "Oh Baby Mine", "For Me & My Girl", "Down Among The Sweltering Palms", "Hummingbird", "Lovely Lips", and "A Good Man Is Hard To Find".

A beautifully tuneful record from Narada Burton Greene – maybe more so than any of his other albums – at least that we can remember! The set's a solo outing, and it's definitely got some of the modern elements that have always made Greene's music so wonderful – but it's also got this brilliant ear for little turns of a tune – one that's handled especially well on the right end of the keyboard, where Burton's got these tones ringing out beautifully, in haunting melodies we really love. And if you're fans of his older music, you've still got plenty to dig here – because the complexity of the keyboard work is rock solid throughout – as you'll hear on tunes that include "Acrturus", "Skumpy", "Bubba Meisa Drama", "Longing", "Moldavian Blues", and "Time Remembered".

A brilliant extension of the Love set from Build An Ark – focusing on some of the more improvisational spirit that's integral to their cosmic groove! Love Part 2 is mix of intimate moments and soaring atmospherics from Carlos Nino, Miguel-Atwood Ferguson and the rest of the stellar ensemble, plus guests and fellow travelers such as vocalists Dwight Trible, Carmen Lundy, Leisei Chen and Mia Doi Todd, violinist Michael White and others. The overall vibe and instrumentation are unpredictable from one movement to the next, but there's always a hypnotic mood at play, be it spun by sparely furnished strings and percussion, earthy global jazz influences or far spacier dynamics! Titles include a lively (and live sounding) string jazz improvisational take on "What The World Needs Now Is Is Love" with passionate vocals and pared down lyrics by Leisei Chen flavored with violin, viola, cello and sitar – plus "Cosmic Tuning", "Nature", "Ginger", "Say Yes!", "Improvisation Day 1", "Improvisation Day 2", ""Improvisation Day 8", "Cadence Of The Love Messengers" and wonderfully unique take on Donny Hathaway's "Tryin Times" with vocals by Carmen Lundy and Dwight Trible.
