Bobby PattersonIt's Just A Matter Of Time ... LP
Paula/Wax Trader (Canada), 1972. New Copy (reissue)... $18.99 19.99
One of the best soul records to come out on the Paula label in the early 70s – one with a number of beautifully soulful moments – and a few surprisingly funky ones, too! Although Bobby Patterson did a lot of work for other singers, this is one of the few albums he actually cut under his own name – and it's a lasting testament to his talents as both a singer and writer. It's got a nice mix of southern soul ballads and more uptempo tracks, and loads of original compositions by Bobby! Includes "This Whole Funky World is a Ghetto", "If You Took A Survey", How Do You Spell Love", "Make Sure You Can Handle It", "I Just Loved You Because I Wanted To", "Right On Jody", "Quiet! Do Not Disturb", and "I Get My Groove From You". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Bobby PierceLong Road Back ... CD
Doodlin, 2008. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The first album in many many years from Bobby Pierce – an organist who recorded briefly for Cobblestone and Muse in the early 70s, then seemed to drop out of sight altogether! The passage of time hasn't dimmed Bobby's skills a bit – as he plays the Hammond here just like he did back in the day – with a classic 60s-styled approach to soul jazz, one steeped in plenty of Don Patterson-like lines – and recorded with a similar open sort of flow. Like Patterson, Pierce gets some great work on guitar for the date – played by Frank Potenza, who manages to rhythmically groove in just the right way. Other players include Ricky Woodard on tenor and Clarence Johnston on drums – and titles include "One For Duff & Dink", "The Long Road Back", "Frenchie", "Bobby's Back", "The Good Life", and "Invitation". ✨✧ VariousRed Hot Christmas Vol 1 – Christmas Is A Jazz Groove ... CD
Blitzen, 1960s/1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Lots of jazzy Christmas gems here – including a few that we've never seen before on CD! These cuts do a great job of sticking to the melody of the original tune, while also adding in some special solo flair as well – still festive, but with a fresh vibe too – one that really keeps things interesting, given the range of music in the set! Titles include "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" by Don Patterson, "Winter Wonderland" by Ronnie Kole, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Duke Pearson, "Christmas Song" by Sonny Stitt, "Jingle Bells" by Jimmy Smith, "Winter Wonderland" by Bobby Timmons, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bill Evans, "Deck The Halls" by Herbie Hancock, "Merry Christmas Baby" by Kenny Burrell, and "The Christmas Song" by Gene Ammons. ✨✧ Tommie YoungDo You Still Feel The Same Way ... LP
Soul Power/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
The one and only full length album ever cut by Tommie Young – a great deep soul singer from back in the day, and one who should have been huge! Tommie' got a deep deep style that'll knock you flat out – with a soaring southern soul sound on many of the tracks here – including a few that presage some of the soul sounds to come later in the 70s! Bobby Patterson wrote most of the tracks on this debut, and the set was recorded in Shreveport with a deep burning Louisiana sound that was the best of that city's scene at the time. The whole thing's great, and titles include "Do We Have a Future", "Everybody's Got a Little Devil In Their Soul", "Hit & Run Lover", "Do You Still Feel The Same Way", "You Came Just In Time", "You Brought It All On Yourself", and "That's How Strong My Love Is". LP, Vinyl record album
