Bob MarleyLegend – The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers ... CD
Island, 1970s. Used .... $2.99
While we're not big on career retrospective best of's, especially artists like Marley, whose been collected over & over, this is actually a respectable set, and the vinyl's pretty darn hard to get ahold of anymore. Includes 14 classics, like "Get Up Stand Up", "Exodus", "Stir It Up", "Is This Love", "No Woman No Cry", "Could You Be Loved", "Three Little Birds", "Buffalo Soldier", "One Love/People Get Ready", "I Shot The Sheriff", 'Waiting In Vain", "Satisfy My Soul" and "Redemption Song". New Bob Marley & The WailersSoul Rebels ... LP
Trojan, 1970. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
A nice collection of early Bob Marley & The Wailers singles – all produced by Lee Perry! The music's a great meeting of two important reggae talents – quite different than both in later years, especially Marley – as the music has a great rawness that would get glossed over in Bob's years with Island, when he would go on to become an international star! The cuts were recorded at Randy's, and titles include "Soul Rebel", "Try Me", "It's Alright", "No Sympathy", "My Cup", "Soul Almighty", "Rebel's Hop", "Corner Stone", "Four Hundred Years", "No Water", "Reaction", and "My Sympathy". New Bob Marley & The WailersKaya (180 gram vinyl – plus bonus track) ... LP
Island, 1977. New Copy .... Out Of Stock
Sweet grooves from the great Bob Marley – a set cut at a time when Marley was really riding his international fame – and able to create the kind of music that reached out way more than conventional reggae! The Kingston roots of the sound are still very firmly in place – but there's also a more globally-expansive vision here too – partly the tight production on the music, partly the warm feelings that ebb and flow throughout the entire set – a vibe that's very different than American soul, and which has turned out to be surprisingly encompassing over the years. Titles include "Is This Love", "Running Away", "Kaya", "Satisfy My Soul", "Easy Skanking", "Sun Is Shining", "She's Gone", "Misty Morning", "Crisis", and "Time Will Tell" – plus this reissue adds "Smile Jamaica" as a bonus track. One of our favorite Wailers LPs – as solid a statement as Marley had made, and to our ears, the finest moment of his later career. The album features classics like "Natural Mystic", "Three Little Birds", "One Love/People Get Ready" and the excellent, driving title track. LP, Vinyl record album

Bob Marley & OthersLegend Remixed ... CD
Island, 1970s/2013. New Copy .... $13.99 14.98
Ballsy, yet perfectly respectful remixes of essential Bob Marley And The Wailers treasures – numbers from the quintessential Legend compilation and a couple more – done by a diverse roster that includes Thievery Corporation, Jim James, Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley, Photek, Z-Trip, Nickodemus, Pretty Lights and more! This is one of those contemporary revisits of classic material that works really well. Bob's vocals are so passionate, the songs so strong, and the choruses so memorable that they hold firm even to radical reinterpretations – but none of the remixers here run off of the rails. None are so foolish as to bury Bob Marley in their mixes, and it's for the most part a really endearing set! Includes "Waiting In Vain (Jim James Remix)", "Stir It Up (Ziggy Marley Remix)", "Get Up Stand Up (Thievery Corporation Remix)", "Exodus (Pretty Lights Remix)", "Jamming (Nickodemus And Zeb Remix)", "Punky Reggae Party (Z-Trip Remix)" featuring Lee Scratch Perry, "Buffalo Soldier *Stephen Marley Remix)" and more. 16 in all. New VariousRhythm Come Forward ... LP
Columbia, Mid 70s/Early 80s. Used .... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An odd compilation pulled together by Columbia in the 80s, not because the assortment of tracks is especially out of place or without continuity, but because the set seems mostly to be pulled together to capitalize on reggae's popularity, though it was assembled well after most major labels had given up on cashing in with Jamaican music. Though some material is listed as previously unreleased like Aswad's "Drum & Bass Line" and "African Children", though those tracks were available at the time, but the compilation does have a unique Francois Kevorkian remix of Jimmy Cliff's "Treat The Youths Right", and more than a handful of other nice numbers. 9 tracks in all, the set also includes "One Love" and "Simmer Down" by Bob Marley & The Wailers, "legalize It" and "Stepping Razor" by Peter Tosh, "Blood Stain" by Yellowman and Sister Nancy and "Try Jah Love" by Third World. New Taj MahalMo' Roots ... CD
Columbia, 1974. New Copy .... Out Of Stock
A well-titled album – given that Taj Mahal's music is always pretty darn rootsy – and this time around, he's also adding in a bit of Jamaican roots too, thanks to production help from Bob Marley and Aston Barrett of The Wailers! The pair help Taj out on a few numbers, mixing in some reggae rhythms with his bluesy lead – another compelling combination of modes that marks the creative apex of Taj Mahal's years on Columbia. Titles include "Johnny Too Bad", "Big Mama", "Cajun Waltz", "Slave Driver", "Blackjack Davey", and "Desperate Lover". CD
