new Chic — Definitive Groove Collection ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2CD .... $8.99 19.98
Club classics and a whole lot more – a massive package of work that contains most of the biggest Chic cuts from the glory days of the group, plus some surprisingly nice bits from later years too! All production here is by the team of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers – that groove-heavy duo who came up with lots of great rhythms and choppy guitar. 2CD set features 30 tracks in all – titles that include "Le Freak", "Savoir Faire", "Chic Cheer", "Dance Dance Dance", "Everybody Dance", "Good Times", "My Forbidden Lover", "What About Me", "My Feet Keep Dancing", "Chip Off The Old Block", "Rebels Are We", "Real People", "26", "Stage Fright", "Just Out Of Reach", "When You Love Someone", "Hangin", "Soup For One", "Your Love Is Cancelled", "Flash Back", "Chic Mystique", and "Your Love".

Chic — Take It Off ... LP
Atlantic, 1981. Near Mint- .... $3.99
An overlooked gem from Chic – a record cut past their initial fame in the discos, and done in a tightly-stepping 80s groove that's totally great! The style here still has plenty of that sharp-edged Niles Rodgers guitar – but the overall sound is cleaner and leaner too – more in a boogie-styled funk approach than before, with a tightly snapping groove that holds up strongly throughout! Bernard Edwards' bass is definitely up in the mix a fair bit, and vocals include contributions from Jocelyn Brown and Fonzi Thornton. Titles include "Flash Back", "Take It Off", "Just Out Of Reach", "Telling Lies", "Stage Fright", "Your Love Is Cancelled", and "Burn Hard".
(Cover has a cutout notch and some wear.)

new Bernard Purdie — Shaft ... LP
Prestige/BGP (UK), 1972. New Copy (reissue).... $15.99
A full funky session from master drummer Bernard Purdie – a set that expands out his previous Prestige vibe, and almost goes for a soundtrack scope to match the record's Shaft title! The set leads off with a great take on the Isaac Hayes hit – one that follows in the same fully-flowing, slow-building mode as Ike's – but which comes across here as an instrumental with some great solo work from Houston Person – playing here almost in a Stanley Turrentine sort of mode! Other tracks continue the hip mix of jazz and larger backings – and feature a lineup of players that includes Neal Creque on electric piano, Gerry Thomas and Danny Moore on trumpets, Willie Bridges and Houston Person on tenors, Billy Nichols and Lloyd Davis on guitars, Gordon Edwards on Fender bass, and Norman Pride on congas. The sound is warm without ever sounding too smooth – and Purdie's funky drums at the bottom ensure that most tunes are nicely lively. Titles include "Shaft", "Butterfingers", "Summer Melody", "Changes", "Way Back Home", and "Attica".

new Debbie Harry — Kookoo (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Chrysalis/Gold Legion, 1981. New Copy .... $11.99 14.98 Out Of Stock
A nice change in sound for Debbie Harry – thanks to Chic production from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards – who really help the solo singer find a groove that's quite different than her work in Blondie! The style's a mixture of the funky club that Chic did so well, with elements that lean a bit more towards an early 80s rockish dancefloor – almost with a vibe that echoes some of the UK imports trickling over to these shores at the time, but with a definite New York vibe underneath! The setting gives Harry's vocals a great way to hit a more playful nature – that sound that was creeping in a bit in Blondie, but which some folks thought was wrong for the group – and Chris Stein is still on hand to bring in some street-sensitive riffing guitar. Titles include "Backfired", "Military Rap", "Oasis", "Surrender", "Chrome", "Jump Jump", and "The Jam Was Moving". CD features 3 bonus tracks – "Backfired (special long version)", "The Jam Was Moving (extended)", and "Inner City Spillover (extended)".
