new Big Star — Radio City ... LP
Ardent/Fantasy, 1974. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99 12.98
One of 70s rock's finest moments – the second album from Big Star! With Chris Bell out of the picture, one could successfully argue the traits lacking from the first album, but this thing stands up as work of genius all its own – with a raw, shambling immediacy to the songs that cuts incredibly deep. Amazing stuff! Titles include "O My Soul", "Life Is White", "Way Out West", "You Get What You Deserve", "Mod Lang", "She's A Mover", "Morpha Girl", "I'm In Love With A Girl".

Alex Chilton — Free Again – The 1970 Sessions (limited edition) ... LP
Ardent/Omnivore, 1970. New Copy .... $16.99 19.98
The legendary 1970 recordings Alex Chilton made at Ardent Studios – recorded in a brief moment after the bust up of the Box Tops and before the debut of Big Star – and a truly powerful precursor to that most iconic of soulful Memphis rock acts! For the longest time, the 1970 sessions were something of a rock & roll holy grail – having been oft-discussed, if rarely heard, by Chilton and Big Star diehards. In the mid 90s, Ardent Records finally released the heart of this collection as 1970 – and here it's done up with even more love and respect by Omnivore, which over the course of just a handful of releases has become one of the very best deep digging reissuers of great, should-be classic soul & rock treasures. The vibe swings from stripped down, soulful rock that sometimes flirts with country rock – those songs featuring gruff, bluesy vocals from Chilton that belie his actual youth, just as greatly as his vox for The Box Tops – to gentler soul pop numbers that truly prefigure the Big Star sound to come. 12 tracks on the vinyl version – plus great liner notes by Bob Mehr, a living encyclopedia of Memphis musical knowledge. Includes "Free Again (Original Mono Mix)", "Come On Honey", "Something Deep Inside", "I Can Dig It", "The EMI Song (Smile For Me)", "Every Day As We Grow Closer/Funky National", "I Wish I Could Meet Elvis", "All We Ever Got From Them Was Pain", "All I Really Want Is Money", "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and more.
(First 1000 copies pressed on clear vinyl.)

Terry Manning & The Wild Ones — El Paso Rock Vol 7 ... LP
Norton, 1963. New Copy .... $12.99
A never-issued session from a young Terry Manning – later a big force on the Memphis scene, thanks to his work for Stax and Ardent – but here heard in one of his first musical outings ever, a small trio with just his own vocals and guitars, plus drums and percussion! The recording quality is nice and raw, and the lack of bass or any other instrumentation really makes the sound of the group very gritty – just shakey guitar over rattling percussion – with Terry's vocals captured in this echoey brilliance that really lives up to the Wild Ones promise of the group's name! Hats off to Norton for digging up this gem, dusting it off, and providing us with notes that even tell the tale of Manning bringing Stevie Nicks to a high school dance. Titles include "Just This Once", "You're In Love", "Mathilda", "Forever Christine", "Patty Baby", "Sorry", "The Dog", and "Nervous Breakdown".
Also available: El Paso Rock Vol 7 ... CD $12.99
