Andrew White — Andrew White Live At The Foolery Vol 3 ... LP
Andrew's Music, 1974. New Copy .... $11.99 15.99
Free and soulful work from saxophonist Andrew White – working here in a live setting with help from Blackbyrds members Kevin Toney on piano and Keith Kilgo on drums! The rhythm players are excellent – especially since they get help from the mighty Steve Novosel on bass – but the real start of the set, always, is White – whose tones are mindblowing – far past what most other American players could ever hit at the time – in tone, timing, and overall execution. He's working here with a well-stated love of Coltrane and Wayne Shorter – but also brings in his own sense of spiritual energy that's really incredible – tied to rich jazz traditions, and deeply expressive throughout. This volume features long tracks "Andy's Alto Sax", "Sacred Blues", "Sydney", and "Kevin Keith & Steve".

new Andrew White — Weekend At The One Step Series Vol 3 – Have Band Will Travel ... LP
Andrew's Music, 1979. New Copy .... $11.99 15.99 Out Of Stock
A set recorded as part of Andrew White's One Step series – but one that also has a different feel than some of the others – as it features some shorter tunes that have a bit more straightforward approach than some of his other work! The group on the album features Blackbyrds Keith Killgo on drums and Kevin Toney on piano, plus excellent bass work by the great Steve Novosel – whose round warm tones really make the album groove! Side one features sweet takes on Coltrane tunes "Naima" and "Central Park West" – plus "What's New", "Mahogany", and "Rim Shot". Side two stretches out with the classic "Big Nick" – then offers White's own "Theme Signature" and "Superfly Disco Boy".

Andrew's Music, 1974. New Copy .... $7.99 15.99 Out Of Stock
A mix of the two different groups used by Andrew White on these Foolery sessions – the first with help from Blackbyrds members Kevin Toney on piano and Keith Kilgo on drums, and the mighty Steve Novosel on bass – the second with Novosel on bass, Donald Waters on piano, and Bernard Sweetney on drums! The real start of the set, always, is White – whose tones are mindblowing – far past what most other American players could ever hit at the time – in tone, timing, and overall execution. He's working here with a well-stated love of Coltrane and Wayne Shorter – but also brings in his own sense of spiritual energy that's really incredible – tied to rich jazz traditions, and deeply expressive throughout. new Andrew White — Andrew White Live At The Foolery Vol 6 ... LP
Andrew's Music, 1974. New Copy .... $7.99 15.99 Out Of Stock
A great second chapter in the Foolery series from Andrew White – one that, like the Marathon series a year later, has him switching groups to keep up with his energy! The players here include Steve Novosel on bass, Donald Waters on piano, and Bernard Sweetney on drums – and they really let loose to propel Andrew into the stratosphere – pushing his already-strong sax lines forth with unbounded rhythms that soar with a spiritual, yet swinging sense of energy. Titles include the great "Superfly Sweetback" – plus "Pips & Pops", "Giant Steps", "In Your Own Sweet Way", and "Theme Grandioso".

new Andrew White — Profile – A Solo Alto Saxophone Album ... LP
Andrew's Music, 1984. New Copy .... $7.99 15.99 Out Of Stock
We've said it before, and we'll say it again – Andrew White really blows our mind! Here, he offers up a solo set of tracks on alto – but in ways that are different than you might expect – straight one minute, offbeat the next – never too far out, but always with a consciousness for the freer sides of the jazz spectrum! The first fourth features themes from Bach, Corelli, and Handel – but blown in ways that are nothing like classical music. The next batch is some French tunes by Barbara – but again taken in wild ways unlike the originals – and side two is a mixture of White originals with a Coltrane number and a standard – all a rich showcase of sounds that is really amazing!

Andrew Hill — Black Fire (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Blue Note/Heavenly Sweetness (France), 1963. New Copy (reissue).... $26.99
Insanely wonderful music from Andrew Hill – a lean, stripped-down session that has Hill working at his firey best – in a space that's somewhere between the "new thing" recordings of Jackie McLean, and the brooding brilliance of Andrew's later Smokestack session! The group here has some key figures fleshing out the sound – a young Joe Henderson, blowing tenor with a very edgey quality – the very versatile Richard Davis on bass – and the great Roy Haynes on drums, very much at his most fluid interpretation of rhythm! The whole set's pretty darn great – one of the more mindblowing Blue Notes you'll ever hope to buy – and tracks include "Pumpkin", "Subterfuge", "Cantarnos", and "McNeil Island".
