One of the hippest non-reissue
records we've heard so far from the Jazzman
Records empire – a massive set of grooves with a really odd sort of feel! Natural Yogurt Band work in spare, funky territory – serving up some very heavy drums (played by Wayne Fullwood, formerly of Little Barrie) – mixed with a range of other instrumental bits that include vibes, electric piano, and some really rumbling bass! There's definitely an influence here from cinematic funk – particularly that of the Italian soundtrack variety – but the group also have a sound that's hardly retro funk at all – more of a fresh, 21st Century pastiche of the range of underground influences that have been bubbling under for years in the Jazzman scene – brought to focus in a set of instrumentals with a really mindblowing sound! Titles include "Latin Illusion", "Chapter One", "Chit Chat", "Better Days To Come", "A Broken Rose", "Lament For Piano", "Space Echo", "Soft Cheese", and "The Woods".
