It opens on with one of their staples, "Same Old Song And Dance" and other tracks include their kickass cover of "Train Kept A Rollin'", plus "Lord Of The Thighs", "Spaced", "Woman Of The World" and "Pandora's Box".

Aerosmith at their most classic! At their peak, Aerosmith brought a hard rock edge to the more groove oriented boogie and blues rock influences. Toys In the Attic is most certainly one of their peaks, if not THE peak. One of our 50s favorites by Miles Davis – and a record that offers the same twin-sax sound as his classic Kind Of Blue – with both John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley working alongside Miles in the group! Rhythm here is by the Prestige-era trio of Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums – but it's the two saxophonists who really help Davis shape the feel of the record, pushing things past the initial Coltrane/Davis groove with a really wonderful sense of space and sound! Titles include the classic "Milestones", plus "Two Bass Hit", "Dr Jeckyll", and "Sid's Ahead".

Thelonious Monk wrote the title tune, but Miles Davis makes it almost his own here – blowing with a subtly moody magic that makes the album one of his true treasures from the early Columbia years! John Coltrane's along on tenor sax – helping Davis expand the sound the pair first forged on Prestige – and also present is the rhythm trio of Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones – impeccably recorded here with a wonderful sense of space. Titles include Miles seminal take on "Round Midnight", plus "Tadd's Delight", "Dear Old Stockholm", "Bye Bye Blackbird", and "A Leu Cha".

A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an important distinction to the way the album progresses.) Evans' arrangements have a majesty that takes the songs to the next level – working them as lush, lively backings for Davis' equally majestic trumpet solos, some of the finest he ever recorded with large group backing. Wonderful all the way through – and with the tracks "Concierto De Aranjuez", "Saeta", "The Pan Piper", and "Solea".

The tenor sax here makes the album a standout – as John Coltrane still works with Miles Davis on 2 tracks for the record, but Blue Note stalwart Hank Mobley joins in on the rest! The approach is similar to that of the classic Coltrane/Davis years – and in a way, the record's kind of a swan song to that period – one of the last studio session that Miles would cut in such an unabashedly sweet and lyrical way. And while Mobley's always better known for his harder-blown notes at Blue Note, he sounds totally great here next to Davis – really keeping up the gentle spirit and spaciousness of the record, and working with a gentleness that surpasses even his work on the legendary Soul Station album. Rhythm is by the trio of Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb – and titles include Miles' classic version of "Someday My Prince Will Come", plus "Old Folks", "Teo", "Drad-Dog", and "Pfrancing".

Amazing sounds from Senegal – a group working here with a trio of singers and some mighty great guitar from Papa Seck – all wrapped up into a groove that mixes the earthy with the trippy! The rhythms bump around with some really hypnotic elements, and often wrap the guitar right around the percussion – while the vocals then blast out with an unexpected sense of power and surprise! Titles include "Na Binta", "Aling Na Djimbe", "Yande", "Ndiguele", and "Mariama Yayou Salam".

A crucial record that introduced most folks to Nick Drake in the early 80s – a cool compilation drawn from his first 2 Island albums – and pretty darn rare! Tracks include "Cello Song", "Northern Sky", "Three Hours", and "Fly".

This limited-edition box is totally beautifully – with eleven individual 7" singles, each with original label and sleeve art – plus the rare "Woodchucks" pic sleeve, a special Hazlewood puzzle, an LHI 45 adapter, and even a download card for all the music – packaged in a heavy-duty magnetic flip-top box! A split LP by 2 of the better psyche folk bands in modern rock – Hush Arbors and Arbouretum – a team effort that makes sense stylistically on top of the conveniently alliterate band names! Hush Arbors' 5 songs kick it off in timeless, insistently melodic fashion. Arbouretum deliver 3 longer tracks to close, nicely akin to the preceding Hush Arbour tracks, though with more hypnotic vibe. Both bands have a nice bit of fuzz in the guitars. Great stuff! The Includes "Lovely Ghost", "Prayer Of Forgetfulness", "Up Yr Coast", "People & Places" and "The Sleeper" by Hush Arbors. Arbouretum's tracks includes "New Scarab", "The Black Sun" and "St Anthony's Fire".

One of the catchiest tunes we've heard from Invisible Hands – the great "Insect Dilemma", which has this nasally hook that almost takes us back to early Sun City Girls days! "Disallowed" is slower and darker, but kind of with a wink and a nod – and "Lili Twil" has a warmer female folksy quality, but still in kind of an eerie way!

Beautiful modern pop from this enigmatic Swedish group who took their name from the legendary Polish soundtrack composer Krszytof Komeda! Their music is dreamy and wonderful – with bits of 60s pop filtered through a 90s sensibility, trimmed down through a post-punk adherence to simplicity – served up in a lovely little package. Titles include "Top Star", "Light O My Life", "More Is More", "Rocket Plane", and "New New No". First time on vinyl!

Rare mid 60s garage rock from Adrian Lloyd – the wild scream-punctuated/Bo Diddley beat inspired "Lorna" and the less manic, but just as great "Got A Little Woman"! The hard-to-find Charger Records single gets much-needed reissue here by Sundazed.

Vinyl version of this favorite from the In The Fishtank series – which sees the teaming of slowcore pioneers low and instrumental mood rock greats Dirty Three.

Pre-Voidoids and Pre-Ramones hard rock band featuring Marc Bell, aka Marky Ramone – with their self-titled and Hard Attack records – together in a 2LP set! Dust's 1971 is a mix of pummeling, though accessible rockers and a suprising bluesy and psych folk nod here and there – particular in the slide guitar and pedal steel of Kenny Aarronson. It features a mix of those and pummeling rockers – with drums that are way faster than Marc would play after changing his persona to Marky! Titles include "Stone Woman", "Chasin' Ladies", "Love Me Hard", "From A Dry Camel" and more. The follow up Hard Attack – as the the title indicates – streamlines the approach a bit into more of a straight up hard rocking style. Titles include "Pull Away/So Many Times", "Learning To Die", "All In All", "Ivory", "I Been Thinkin", "How Many Horses", and "Suicide".

A definite treasure from Taj Mahal – especially for fans of his excellent early work for Columbia Records! The first CD in the package features unreleased studio tracks recorded during the glory days for Columbia – not rough cuts or demos, but well-finished gems that offer up the same sublime mix of modes – a bit of blues with plenty of soul – that you'd expect from Taj! A hip bit of sound library funk from the Italian Giraffa label – a batch of tunes that's almost a mix between horror soundtracks and jazz funk – served up with all the right keyboard and guitar touches of both! There's a slight electro vibe to the record at points – almost a mode that would be right at home in the Cosmic scene – but there's also a bit more warmth too, a sensitivity that makes the longer tunes really shimmer and sparkle nicely. And although a sound library set, the tracks have a much deeper sense of composition – not just simple rhythms, but tunes that change up nicely as they roll on. Bowie's working here as David Jones – with either The Manish Boys or Lower Third groups – often with a bit more soul in the mix than some of his later work, showing the changing sound of London in this crucial year. A great look at one of the indie giants in record retailing – Louisville's proud Ear X-Tacy Records – a pretty great shop for over 25 years! The film captures the store at a relatively sad point in its history – fighting to stay alive amidst a changing industry, and eventually not able to make it – a story that's been the same for far too many stores in the past decade or so. But there's also a nice spirit of celebration, too – and given how much stores like this are becoming a thing of the past, it's nice to have some well-documented footage – so we can still visually shop the Ear X-Tacy racks!

A well-done love letter to the record store – pitched in the title as a vanishing breed, but well-demonstrated by the film as alive and well! The documentary takes a look at industry shifts that had led to a lot of closures of record stores, but also features a pretty celebratory look at the new independent spirit in record retailing, now that most of the giants are gone. Filmed from a British perspective, but pretty universal overall – with great appearances by Paul Weller, Billy Bragg, Norman Cook, Johnny Marr, and others. 124 minutes, with lots of bonus features!

Rare Charlie Feathers work from Memphis – recorded for Goldwax in 1962, but mostly unissued until this set! Only the cut "Deep Elm Blues" came out on the Holiday Inn label – and other tracks are all previously unissued – "Love Never Treated Me Right", "Nobody's Darlin But Mine", and "The Side Wind" – all in a cool pic sleeve pressing!

One of our favorite tunes ever from Jethro Tull – a cool jazzy number that's almost more Herbie Mann or Harold McNair than the usual Tull groove! The bluesy bottom really drops out of the group's sound – and instead a hip bassline sets the tune up nicely for some sweet solo flute, and these catchy lyrics that are some of the most hook-heavy that Ian Anderson's ever sung! Limited pic sleeve EP also features "Witch's Promise", "Life Is A Long Song", and "Teacher (UK version 2013 mix)".

The album's a strangely anachronistic one – steeped in the kind of past-days scoring found on early records by Harpers Bizarre and Randy Newman (both of which Parks had a hand in!), wrapped around simply poetic songs about the scene and state of affairs in late 60s LA, all handled with a cinematic approach that's aging Hollywood at its best! The music is very well-chosen – and includes cuts by some key artists who only worked briefly for Cotillion, and never cut a full album for the label – such as Baby Washington, Otis Clay, or Walter Jackson. Other artists are ones who really hit their height at Cotillion, but still remain relatively obscure – and the singles here easily represent some of their best work ever.
