new Pinky WintersPinky (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Vantage/SSJ (Japan), 1954. New Copy .... $26.99 Out Of Stock
The first album ever from Pinky Winters – a beautiful little set that already has the singer reaching some great heights in her music! The feel of the record is quite similar to some of the vocal sessions on Bethlehem from the mid 50s – particularly the Chris Connors albums – and Pinky sits nicely alongside some small group backing from Bud Lavin on piano, Jim Wolf on bass, and Stan Levey on drums! As with a Bethlehem date, the charm here comes not from the songs, or the arrangements – but from the personal, relaxed way that Pinky puts together her performance – free of cliche, and really crafted in that freshly intimate style of jazz singing that was just coming into play when Winters hit the west coast. Titles include "Cool Sazerac", "This Can't Be Love", "Darn That Dream", "The World Is Your Balloon", and "Little Girl Blue". CD comes with 12 more bonus tracks – really expanding the original album – titles that include "You Better Go Now", "Darn That Dream", "The Nearness Of You", "The Lady Is A Tramp", and "But Not For Me".

new Various — Singin' Swingin' Jazzin' SSJ (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
SSJ (Japan), 1950s/1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s. New Copy .... $24.99 Out Of Stock
A cool collection of work from the SSJ label in Japan – an imprint run by the Sinatra Society in that country, and one that has a really great ear for jazzy vocals! The tracks here run the gamut of a few decades, but they all have a very classic approach to their music – a style of singing that's focused on the best styles of the postwar years in the US – particularly Sinatra-styled modes that first gave the label their start. Most tunes have been reissued already by the SSJ label, but the collection's a great way to check out their work before diving into more expensive individual imports! There's titles here appearing for the first time ever – including "You Are For Loving" by Pinky Winters, "Makin Whoopee" by Beverly Kenney, "You Stepped Out Of A Dream" by Carol Sloane, "If" by Dick Noel, "How About Me" by Johnny Holiday, "Singbird -Skylark" by Denise Donatteli – and other tracks include "Besame Mucho" by Lincoln Briley, "She" by Jack Jones, "Autumn" by Christian Jacob, "You Don't Know What Love Is" by Mellonie Irvine, "There's No You" by Carole Creveling, "A Taste Of Honey" by Frankie Randall, and "In Walked Bud" by Leslie Lewis.
