ClaudineLonget —
Colours ... CD A&M/Elemental (Spain), 1968. New Copy ...

The colors are rich, but gentle too – like a palette of pastels, all sung by the lovely ClaudineLonget! The album's got a slightly more mature feel than some of Longet's first for A&M – great Nick DeCaro arrangements that show some of the deeper elements creeping into pop at the end of the 60s – including some surprising use of acoustic guitar, which really helps transform the sound, and brings out an earthy, natural quality that makes Claudine sound sexier than ever! The sessions feature work by Randy Newman, Lyle Ritz, and Ron Elliott – and titles include "Pussywillows Cattails", "Catch The Wind", "Colours", "Bobbie (For Baby)", and "Hurry On Down". CD
A totally great collection of work by this enigmatic singer from the 60s! Claudine's got a very lovely voice – as you may already know – and it was a perfect match for the breathy breezy easy studio talents of the great A&M label. Her recordings for A&M during the late 60s are still some of the best pop vocal tracks to ever come out of LA – and this nicely remastered CD features 24 great tracks from Claudine's now out of print LPs – including "Walk In The Park", "Happy Talk", "Sleep Safe & Warm", "A Man & A Woman", "Hello, Hello", "Snow", "Lazy Summer Night", and "I Don't Intend To Spend Christmas Without You". CD
Breathily beautiful work from singer Priscilla Paris – an unusual take on the music of Billie Holiday, done with a relatively sweet feel overall! Paris is definitely trying for Holiday's tone at times – but her sound is always a bit warmer and airier – almost as if ClaudineLonget were doing a tribute to Billie, with a spacious late 60s feel that's almost A&M at times! Backings are by Sid Feller and Don Peake, and players on the date include Jimmy Rowles on piano, Jim Crutcher on bass, John Guerin on drums, and Peake on guitar – plus a bit of added strings. Titles include "In My Solitude", "Girls Were Made To Take Care Of Boys", "Just Friends", "I Love You Porgy", and "My Man". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing in the textured cover. Cover has a tiny bump in one corner, but this is a great copy overall.)
Lovely little bossa nova tracks from singer Sonia Roza – a vocalist who's so sensitive, her vocals almost take second stage to the jazzy backings in the set! And the backings are especially nice – given that they're served up by the quartet of Sadao Watanabe – which features some great flute and guitar on most of the tracks! Some tunes have just a bit of light added strings, but never too much – and although Sonia often sings in English, she does so with an accented style that's completely charming – a fair bit like ClaudineLonget at her early A&M best. Titles include "The Look Of Love", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Secret Love", "Tristeza", "The Girl From Ipanema", "Desafinado", and "Meditation" – all done in a really great dreamy mode!
