✨✧ Henry ManciniArabesque ... CD
RCA (Spain), 1966. Used ... Out Of Stock
Not as famous as other Henry Mancini soundtracks of the 60s – but a gem through and through, and a record that really shows the maturing talents of the maestro! The album mixes together lush orchestrations with some of the lighter jazz you'd expect from Mancini – the latter a nice counterpoint to the former, which in itself is still light years better than most of what was coming from mainstream Hollywood at the time. There's some really inventive instrumental moments on the record – played by Jack Sheldon on trumpet, Dick Nash on trombone, Ted Nash on alto sax, and Jimmy Rowles on piano. Check out the bongo-driven "Something For Sophia", a great little number dedicated to Sophia Loren, one of the stars of the film – or groove to the "Arabesque Theme", a dark-toned number that has some nice descending parts that keep things nice and spooky. "Shower Of Paradise" has some nice moody themes with strings – and the album contains a 5 minute "Zoo Chase" suite that has some good crime moments too! CD

✨✧ Bob DoroughMultiplication Rock ... LP
Capitol, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sure, it was silly stuff when we were kids – but once De La Soul sampled "Three Is The Magic Number", this record became one of the most prized in our possession! And thanks to that hip hop reintroduction, we've really fallen in love with the music again over the years – partly because the tunes are all so groovy, and partly because we've really come to know the jazz-based work of composer Bob Dorough! At the time of this set, Dorough was coming off some great work in the 60s – his own rare recordings, music for Spanky & Our Gang, and others – all of which seems to inform these math-based tunes written for Saturday morning TV. The tunes are all pretty darn catchy, and often quite jazzy – and instrumentation often features some great electric piano nestled in alongside the vocals. Dorough sings the lion's share of the work for this album – although Grady Tate sings on two numbers, and Blossom Dearie on one more. Titles include the amazing "Three Is A Magic Number" – plus "Lucky Seven Sampson", "Little Twelve Toes", "Ready Or Not Here I Come", "I Got Six", "Naughty Number Nine", "Figure Eight", and "The Four Legged Zoo". Cast Of ZoomCome On & Zoom! ... LP
A&M, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $19.99
Ok, ok, we'll admit it! When we were kids, we totally dug this hippy-dippy show and all of its insider jokes, games, and languages. Listening to this old soundtrack, though, we kind of wince to think how this drivel might have affected us if punk hadn't come along to make us totally boring and cynical for the better part of the 80s! With such favorites as "Zoom Theme", "Fannee Doodle", "Ballin The Jack", "I Believe In Music", and the legendary "Address Song"! (Children's, Soundtracks) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Oscar PetersonSilent Partner – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Pablo, 1979. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An obscure jazzy soundtrack by Oscar Peterson, and one of his nicest albums from the late 70s! The record moves past the usual Peterson trio format – and includes extra horn players like Benny Carter, Zoot Sims, and Clark Terry, as well as the vibes of Milt Jackson. All this makes for a nicer than usual set of original jazzy tracks, many with a strident groove that's very different than Peterson's other work from the time. Titles include "Theme For Celine", "Party Time USA", "Theme For Susannah", "Elliot", and "Blues For Chris". (Jazz, Soundtracks) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Francis LaiLive For Life (Vivre Pour Vivre) ... LP
United Artists, 1967. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A stunning soundtrack from the legendary Francis Lai – a record that got a fair bit of circulation at the time, as it was a follow up to his huge global hit, A Man & A Woman (aka Un Homme Et Une Femme)! The style here is equally great – a groovy sound that completely changed the way soundtrack music was used in the 60s – airy, jazzy, and with the same mix of bossa and mod styles that you might find in some of your favorite Italian soundtracks of the time – although at a global scale, we always think that Francis really set the tune for others to follow! There's some nice organ, great use of trumpet, and the record even has some groovy vocals at points from the wonderful Nicole Croisille – who'd sung on the Man & A Woman soundtrack, and also worked with Lai on other Saravah Records albums too. And in a way, since Pierre Barouh had a hand in some of these tunes, the whole thing is almost a precursor to Saravah – certainly, like A Man & A Woman, where Barouh had some help in raising the funds for that project. Titles include "Theme To Candice", "Theme To Catherine", "Theme To Robert", "All At Once It's Love", "Zoom", and a few versions of the title cut! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some surface wear, aging, bumped corners, and some heavy edge wear at parts.)
