✨✧ Felix CavaliereCastles In The Air ... LP
Epic, 1979. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Felix Cavaliere may be best known to some for his work in the Rascals – but years later, he stepped out as a solo act on his own – with a sound that nicely drew from all of his early work on Atlantic Records! The sound here is kind of a late 70s update of the blue-eyed mode that Felix had with his earlier group – given a bit more of an AOR spin in the production, through use of a top-shelf array of jazz fusion players in the backings. Despite the pianos on the cover, Cavaliere mostly plays Fender Rhodes and organ next to his vocals – on titles that include "Only A Lonely Heart Sees", "All Or Nothing", "People Got To Be Free", "Outside Your Window", "Love Is The First Day Of Spring", "You Turned Me Around", and "Good To Have Love Back". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light surface.)

✨✧ Felix HarpDear ... LP
Guinness, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A weird set of compressed 70s rock – and one of the few releases on the tiny Guiness label. Felix has an approach here that's almost like some of the best crossover British rock of the time – jangly and earthy at times, but with a nice studio approach to the production – in a way that spaces out the vocals nicely next to the guitars in a post-glam sort of way. Titles include "Try Not To Listen", "My Love & I", "Love Is All Around", "Dear", "Black", "Mother", and "Jackie's Back In Town". LP, Vinyl record album

BedlamBedlam ... LP
Chrysalis, 1973. Very Good+ ... $19.99 29.99
A searing set from Bedlam – a group who only ever gave the world one full album at the time, a set that stands as a great bridge between generations and styles on the UK hard rock scene! The group's most famous member is drummer Cozy Powell – the ersatz leader of the lineup – but the whole combo hits on all burners, with great lead vocals from Frank Aiello, guitar from Dave Ball, and bass from Dennis Ball – plus keyboards on the set from both Max Middleton and Felix Pappalardi – the latter of whom produced. Powell's drums are fantastic throughout – really driving the whole thing along – and Aiello comes across like some lost lead act from the glory days of the arena scene. The set features one killer break track called "Seven Long Years" – a stone jammer that begins with some great drums that break nicely into guitars – and other titles include "Believe In You", "Hot Lips", "Sweet Sister Mary", "Putting On The Flesh", "Set Me Free", and "The Beast". LP, Vinyl record album
(Green label pressing. Cover has ring and edge wear, and a center split in the bottom seam.)

BedlamBedlam Anthology (6CD set) ... CD
Chrysalis/Grapefruit (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 6CD ... $29.99 46.99
A massive package of work from Bedlam – an early project from drummer Cozy Powell, and one with a legacy that's surprisingly bigger than the single album they issued back in the day! The first 2CDs feature both a new mix and 1973 mix of the self-titled Bedlam album – a searing set that stands as a great bridge between generations and styles on the UK hard rock scene! CD3 features a Live In London set from 1973; CD4 features a Live in New York set from 1974; CD5 features a related Big Bertha Live In Hamburg set from 1970; and CD6 features 16 more formative tracks from 1968 to 1970, recorded as Bedlam, Ace Kefford Stand, Big Bertha, and Ideal Milk. Bo GrumpusBefore The War ... LP
Atco, 1968. Near Mint- ... $49.99
Late 60s psyche pop on Atco from Bo Grumpus – a Boston group who only ever cut this one LP that we know of – and it's a groovy one! The sound has kind of tight pop combo groove with catchy melodies – fleshed out into trippier territory with some keys, trumpet, and overall bigger arrangements – some of which was done by Felix Pappalardi, who would go onto to bigger things with Mountain! Titles include "Sparrow Tune", "Think Twice", "Yesterday's Street", "The Breath O'Love", "A Knowing Young Touch", "Ragtimey Love", "Travelin In The Dark", "Brooklyn", "The Moon Will Rise" and "If I Came To You". LP, Vinyl record album

Private Stock/Octave (Japan), 1976. New Copy ... $18.99 24.99
A supergroup of sorts, with members from bigger earlier British groups – working here with the great Felix Pappalardi at the production helm for their one and only release! The album mixes upbeat romping tunes that have that catchy UK pop mode of the period with a few mellower moments – all the kind of cuts that almost could have made this one a crossover success, but which likely fell between the cracks as one of the many overlooked projects on the Private Stock label. Titles include "The Right Time", "Miracle Mile", "Dark Cloud", "You can Do It", "Little Darlin", and "Once Again A Love Song". CD

✨✧ Kensington MarketAvenue Road ... CD
Pacemaker Entertainment, New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Surprisingly soulful stuff from this Canadian combo – an album produced by Felix Pappalardi, with a sound that definitely shows his touch! Although they've got a British-sounding name, the group work in much warmer territory overall – personally-penned tunes that sometimes have the gentleness of folk, but often have a fuller presence too – especially in the way the vocals come up close, and the instrumental mix has a nice sense of depth. There's some compelling use of trumpet alongside the core guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums – and the album also features a bit of sitar too. Titles include "Phoebe", "I Would Be The One", "Speaking Of Dreams", "Looking Glass", "Beatrice", "Girl Is Young", and "Presenting Myself Lightly". CD

✨✧ Fred NeilLittle Bit Of Rain (aka Bleecker & MacDougal) ... LP
Elektra, 1965. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The first full album from the great Fred Neil – recorded for Elektra Records in the years before his underground fame on Capitol – and with a sound that's maybe a bit more bluesy overall, but in a very cool way! Fred's songwriting strengths are very much at play here – as almost all songs are originals – but there's also a tighter focus that compresses most numbers to the 2/3 minute range – instead of making them more of the wispier workouts of later years. The group's quite an interesting one – with on guitar and dobro from Pete Childs, bass from Felix Pappalardi, and harmonica from John Sebastian – all at a young point that has them bringing plenty of folk blues inflections to their performances, but in a way that's completely free of any hoke or cliche. Titles include "Travelin Shoes", "Water Is Wide", "Gone Again", "Candy Man", "Yonder Comes The Blues", and "Little Bit Of Rain". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mid 70s butterfly label pressing with Warner rim logo. Cover has a light wear and is bent a bit at the corners.)

✨✧ VariousFolk, Funk, & Beyond – The Arrangements Of John Cameron ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An incredible collection of work from the great John Cameron – kind of a secret hero on the British scene of the late 60s and early 70s – as most of his work was done for bigger artists at the time, or came out on obscure sound library sessions! Yet despite that obscurity, Cameron was a true hero of the time – a jazz musician who was able to bring a fresh sensibility to the studio when supporting the work of key artists on their important records – maybe most famously in collaboration with Donovan, but heard here working with a variety of different rock, folk, soul, and other artists – all of whom really benefit from the John Cameron touch! We've always loved Cameron's work in the studio, are always thrilled to see his name on a record – and this collection is maybe the first to really showcase his contributions to the world in a really unified way – all with the usual Ace Records strong attention to details and great liner notes too. Titles include "Barnes Bridge" by Harold McNair, "Willow's Harp" by World Of Oz, "Boat Trip" by Gordon Haskell, "Ding Dong The Wicked Witch Is Dead" by Julie Felix, "The Observation" by Donovan, "Avenues & Alleyways" by Tony Christie, "Everybody Needs Somebody" by The Fascinations, "Isn't This Where We Came In" by Lionel Bart, "A Road To Nowhere" by Lesly Duncan, "Open Your Window" by Ella Fitzgerald, "Primrose Hill" by Kathe Green, "Cleopatra Jones" by Bobby Harrison, and "Brother" by CCS – plus "Half Forgotten Daydreams", "Heat Haze", and "Kes" by Cameron himself. ✨✧ MountainNantucket Sleighride ... LP
Windfall, 1971. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Solid jamming from Mountain – one of the tightest guitar-based groups of their day, and hard rockers that could serve up a nice dose of soul! Tunes have a great mix of tight rhythms and fierce guitars – a bit dated at times, but with some nice production overall by Felix Pappalardi. Titles include "Don't Look Around", "Taunta", "Nantucket Sleighride", "Tired Angels", "The Great Train Robbery", and "The Animal Trainer & The Toad". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousSounds Of The Unexpected – Weird & Wacky Instrumentals From Pop's Final Frontiers ... CD
Ace (UK), 1960s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A totally cool collection of really offbeat numbers with a space age sort of theme – tunes that run the gamut from rock instrumentals to electronic pop – with lots of stops along the space in between! The package is right up there with some of the best "themed" collections by Ace Records – not just a superb selection of tunes, but really put together in the best way possible – with thoughtful transitions between the tunes, and a huge booklet of notes and label images – with some text on the late Vicki Fox, who put together this set, and others for Ace in the past. You'll definitely recognize a few names here, but the setting makes them sound really amazing and unique – especially some of the soul, jazz, and blues artists in the mix. Titles include "Waltz In Orbit" by Ray Cathode, "Watusi Zombie" by Jan Davis, "Savage Girl" by Felix & His Fabulous Cats, "War Of The Worlds" by The Atlantics, "Caravan" by Gabor Szabo, "Hot Pot" by The Tornados, "Funky Me" by Timmy Thomas, "Uh Oh" by The Imps, "Flameout" by 101 Strings, "It's Karate Time" by Travis Wammack, "Long Sentence" by The Upsetters, "B'Wana Bongos" by Preston Epps, "Hung Over" by The Martinis, "Music To Watch Space Girls By" by Leonard Nimoy, "Aztec" by Bo Diddley, "Watusie Freeze (part 1)" by Big Walter & The Thunderbirds, and "RFD Rangoon" by The Forbidden Five. ✨✧ VariousToo Slow To Disco 4 ... CD
How Do You Are (Germany), Late 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really wonderful entry in this long-running series – one that really digs deep to go way past the obvious – and continued a journey into mellow-stepping music that moves much farther than we ever could have expected! If you know the other volumes, you'll know that the set looks at the more soulful side of the spectrum in the world of AOR – well-crafted cuts that groove along in a mellow sort of way – but which also aren't too commercial or pop-oriented too – work that was often cut with the best talents of the bigger labels, but never got much exposure at the time – which makes the pleasure of discovery here all that much greater. Titles include "Magic Song" by Jeannine Otis & Heikki Sarmanto, "Nothin To It" by Pleasure, "Groovy Times" by Alan Price, "Stay The Night" by Faragher Brothers, "Stay" by Severin Browne, "Generalities" by Marc Jordan, "Music In Me" by Stephen Encinas, "Tell Me The Reasons Why" by Max Leake, "Open Up" by James Felix, "Fall In Love In Outer Space" by Prime Time Band, "Mystery Girl" by The Dukes, "Now That I Need You" by Peter Skellern, and "Altogether Alone" by Hirth Martinez. ✨✧ Aksak MaboulRedrawn Figures 2 (with download) ... LP
Crammed (Belgium), 2022. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
If the "figures" in the title here sounds a bit familiar, it's because Figures was a great return to form for the legendary Aksak Maboul – a record that showed that their unusual mix of sounds and styles was alive and well into the 21st Century – used here as a platform for new creation by a hosts of artists and producers invited to the project by the group! These tracks aren't remixes, and are definitely "redrawn" in the spirit of the title – fresh music that moves between a variety of modes, but which often still retains the leaner feel of the group in their current incarnation. Titles on this second volume include "Un Caid (Hello Skinny rmx)", "Retour Chez A (Felix Kubin rmx)", "Fin (Stubbleman rmx)", "Anatomy Of A Dramuscule (Matias Aguayo interpretation)", "L'Adieu A L'Histoire (Tolouse Low Trax rmx)", and "Dramuscule (Ohh Luuu rmx)". ✨✧ MountainFlowers Of Evil ... LP
Windfall, 1971. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A searing standout from Mountain – a studio album, but one that also really captures some of the freewheeling energy that made the group such a great live act at the time – especially given that the studio sessions here are mixed with a bit of improvisation from a live concert too! The double-headed team of Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi are very firmly in charge – the latter with loads of heavy bass, the former with that fuzzy guitar that mixes so well with the heavy drums of the group and titles include "Flowers Of Evil", "King's Chorale", "One Last Cold Kiss", "Crossroader", and "Pride & Passion" – plus a long improvisation that blends together "Dream Sequence Guitar Solo/Roll Over Beethoven/Dreams Of Milk & Honey/Variations/Swan Theme" – and a live take on their classic "Mississippi Queen".
