Philadelphia Freedom from Elton John – a trio of tracks recorded with legendary Philly Soul producer Thom Bell, all with a Sigma Sound vibe that's quite different than most of John's other work at the time! In fact, although these tracks were recorded right at the height of the disco era, they're quite restrained and more focused on a soulful sound overall – in a style that's very similar to Davie Bowie's great Philly Soul recordings on the Young Americans album! MFSB, Bell & James, Bobby Eli, and many other key Philly talents are in the lineup – and titles include "Mama Can't Buy You Love", "Are You Ready For Love", and "Three Way Love Affair". This version features six tracks in all – more than the original EP release – including "Shine On Through", "Country Love Song", and "Nice & Slow". LP, Vinyl record album

Birth ControlBirth Control – A New German Rock Group ... LP
Prophesy/Bell, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $59.99
Not the best of the German prog bands, but still a compelling one that starts with a basic jazz/rock lineup of organ, guitar, and bass – and which plays jamming tracks that are peppered with vocals. Includes nice version of "Light My Fire", plus the originals "Sundown", "Change Of Mind", and "No Drugs". LP, Vinyl record album

Box TopsNon Stop ... LP
Bell, Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $13.99
Beautiful work from The Box Tops – a set that has the group moving way past their early hits, and finding this really sort of special place in the world of up-and-coming artists in the 60s! The Box Tops were maybe one of the first Memphis rock groups to really put together all the great elements that were bubbling in that city's scene during the 60s – the unique hybrid of soul, country, R&B, and other influences that were filtering into groups via the cross-cultural vibe of the city. That quality really comes through here – partly in the group's performance and the lead vocals of Alex Chilton, partly in the great production by Dann Penn, who also wrote a number of tracks with Spooner Oldham, and partly in the way that fuller arrangements are used to underscore some more soulful touches in the music. Titles include "Sandman", "Choo Choo Train", "I'm Movin On", "People Gonna Talk", "She Shot A Hole In My Soul", "I Met Her In Church", "I Can Dig It", and "If I Had Let You In". ✨✧ Glitter BandHey! ... LP
Bell (Germany), 1974. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Hey! They couldn't have come up with a better name for this one – because a well-shouted "hey" really gets at the groove of the Glitter Band! Like the sound of their old boss, Gary Glitter, The Glitter Band go for a great little style that's all rhythm and fuzzy guitars – the best party-hearty sound of the 70s British glam scene, served up with a compressed groove that's totally great! Rhythms are tight and snapping – often clapping – and guitars are fuzzy and trebley in that great Glitter sort of way, so that they're pressed right up alongside the vocals in the mix – which are themselves pretty nicely produced with a flanged-out twist! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear, a spot or two with sticker & tape remnant.)

Bell/Prophesy, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Heady work from the German scene of the late 60s – one of the key albums by the first incarnation of Amon Duul, who grew out of the underground commune of the same name! The set's got a loose, almost improvised feel – with some long tracks that definitely make you feel like you're dropping in on the band as they jam together in the studio, mixed with shorter numbers that still somehow manage to convey the same sort of energy, but in a smaller space! Production is nice and open – with some of that murky current of darkness that would come to reign in the Krautrock scene a few years later. LP, Vinyl record album

Bell, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A great little album from Gary – his one big American hit, and a sublime blend of glam and groove, featuring the massive "Rock & Roll", a track that's still played ad infinitum today at sports events – and which never fails to charge up the scene! Gary must have gotten a bucket of royalties for that one – and the rest of the record's equally great, filled with power-driving numbers that have a roar like a Harley in low gear. Also includes "Baby Please Don't Go", "I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock & Roll)",'Ain't That A Shame", "Rock On","The Famous Instigator" and "Shaky Sue". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Margo GuryanTake A Picture (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Bell/Oglio, 1968. Used ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked 60s pop gem from Margo Guryan – probably best known as the writer of the "Sunday Morning" hit for Spanky & Our Gang, but an equally great singer on her own! Margo's got a style that's towards the hipper side of girl pop in the late 60s – but one that's also free from singer/songwriter modes too – an approach that's never too serious, yet which often has a nice undercurrent of darkness in the mix. Production is somewhat poppy, but not in a commercial way – and we might well say that Guryan's work here has that same great balance of elements we love in the Mercury recordings by Spanky & Our Gang. John Hill produced, and also handled most of the arrangements – and many tunes here are Guryan originals, with titles that include "Sunday Morning", "Sun", "Love Songs", "Thoughts", "Take A Picture", "Think Of Rain", "Can You Tell", and "Someone I Know". CD features 3 bonus tracks – "Timothy Gone", "It's Alright Now", and "I Think A Lot About You". CD

✨✧ RumplestiltskinRumplestiltskin ... LP
Bell, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An excellent rock album with lots of funky breaks, and some very very heavy drums by Rupert Baer! The set was put together by Shel Talmy, but he also got some help from the great Alan Hawkshaw, of funky KPM and Serge Gainsbourg fame – who seems to hone the record into a groove that goes way beyond its initial potential! The overall concept is a bit silly – as you might guess from the cover – and although some of the lyrics are lackluster, the record more than makes up for it with the mix of drums, bass, and organ in the instrumental sections – and there's more than a few nice moments here to please the beatheads! Tracks include "Make Me Make You", "No One To Turn To", "Squadron Leader Johnson", "Pate De Foie Gras", and "Knock On My Door". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Orang-UtanOrang-Utan ... LP
Bell/Guerssen (Spain), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
There's plenty of monkey business going on with this one and only album from Orang-Utan – as the group were actually named Hunter, from the UK – but the set was issued in the US under a different band name, and without the knowledge of the group! Yet that hardly keeps it from being a killer, though – as the record's got this raw early 70s British hard rock energy – heavy bass, searing guitar, and nicely nasty lead vocals from singer Nobby Clarke! Titles include "Love Queen", "Fly Me High", "Magic Playground", "Slipping Away", "I Can See Inside Your Head", and "Chocolate Piano". LP, Vinyl record album

Bagatelle11pm Saturday ... LP
ABC, 1968. Very Good+ ... $11.99
A heck of a great batch of blue eyed soul tracks – much harder-hitting than you'd expect from the name of the group, and done with a "live studio" feel that really makes the session kick! The group's a big one, of mixed origin – of the sort of party club type acts that used to play a lot in the south in the 60s – and alongside original tunes, they also really groove on some upbeat numbers in a soaring Sam & Dave sort of mode. Titles include "I've Been Trying", "I'm Losing You", "Hey You", "Such A Fuss About Sunday", "Soul Man", "Shake", and "I Feel Good". (Soul, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album

Big StarRadio City (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Ardent/Fantasy, 1974. New Copy (reissue)... $26.99 28.99
A record that may have never hit the radio city it wished for in the title – but a classic that's gone onto have an undeniable influence on so many scenes and styles over the years! This sublime second set from Big Star is even leaner and more focused than the first – a record that has the group losing Chris Bell, yet still retaining a lot of his influence – while the main focus moves over to Alex Chilton, whose ability to sing and write is simply mindblowing! The tunes have these dark, melancholy moments that are unlike anything either Chilton or rock had given the world up to the time – and really almost feel much more like work from a decade later in terms of execution and production. There's no easy labels, no easy terms you could ever hope to ascribe to the record – and that's fine, because it stands majestically well on its own. Titles include "O My Soul", "Life Is White", "Way Out West", "You Get What You Deserve", "Mod Lang", "She's A Mover", "Morpha Girl", "I'm In Love With A Girl". LP, Vinyl record album

Warner/Sundazed, Mid 60s. Used ... Just Sold Out!
The title track's a mighty big hit for The Marketts – and it's also a great way to describe the group's talent for pushing past their boundaries at the time! The sound is surf instrumental at the core – but really stretches out to space themes, soundtrack areas, and more – thanks to inventive arrangements from Ray Pohlman, who pushes these guys farther than the usual groups of the time – while still keeping that guitar instrumental style that made them so great overall! There's a lot more variety to the tunes than you'd hear on a Ventures album, for example – and beautiful Bones Howe engineering makes sure that the sound is top-shelf throughout! Titles include the group's big hit reading of "Out Of Limits", plus "Bell Star", "Saturn", "Re-Entry", "Other Limits", "Twilight City", and "Limits Beyond". CD

Essentially early Stones! 12 X 5 is The Rolling Stones at a very early, hard grooving peak, way back in '64. It's ground breaking stuff, in they they truly pave the way for so much of the soul, blues and R&B loving Anglos to come out of the Brit and US scenes in the months and years to come. It's a covers-heavy set, given that they were just beginning to do doing original material at this early point – and the tracks include the Jagger/Richards penned "Good Times, Bad Times", "Congradulations" and "Grown Up Wrong" – plus "Time Is On My Side", "Around And Around", "2120 South Michigan Avenue", "Susie Q" and more. London, 1967. Very Good Gatefold ... $16.99
A record that was initially thought by some as a cheap cash-in on the Sgt Peppers concept – but an album that, to us, really helped set The Rolling Stones free to express themselves in so many new and amazing ways! There's definitely a bit of the hippie vibe to the set at times – such as sitar that might have been unimaginable on a Stones track a few years before – but there's also an explosively creative approach to the album's arrangements and production, creating a kaleidoscope of sounds that only further seems to illuminate the Jagger and Richards genius! MCA, 1973. Used 2 CDs ... $4.99
A record we'd never part with – and easily our favorite album ever from The Who! Quadrophenia represents the group at its peak from all perspectives – songwriting, performance, and even studio presence – as the album's got a sonic sensibility that few other albums of the time can match! The set's a concept record – a story, like Tommy – yet it remains incredibly lean, without any overcluttered rock opera feel – so much so that most tunes stand mightily on their own, but also have a dense sense of texture when taken together as part of the double-length album. And we'll also say that the record's one of the few extended sets we always end up breezing through from start to finish – almost surprised by the time it comes to a close – and often hitting repeat to hear the whole thing over again! Titles include "I Am The Sea", "The Real Me", "Cut My Hair", "The Punk & The Godfather", "Sea & Sand", "5:15", "Bell Boy", "Love Rein O'Er Me", and "Is It In My Head". CD

VariousSassafras & Moonshine – The Songs Of Laura Nyro ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... $11.99 18.99
A great tribute to the songwriting skills of Laura Nyro – presented here in a package that features key covers from some of Nyro's contemporaries, and which also includes a surprising amount of soul music too! Laura's one of those key 60s talents who started writing for others, then got the chance to spread her wings on her own – and while her own recordings have really continued to reach new audiences over the decades, it's great to have a package like this to remind us of Nyro's songwriting roots! The set's mostly heavy on material from the late 60s and early 70s – with a fair bit of female soul tunes in the mix – and it also includes a few more contemporary numbers that come as a nice surprise. Like others in Ace's "songwriter" series, the production and packaging is great – and titles include "Stoney End" by The Blossoms, "Time & Love" by The Supremes, "Wedding Bell Blues" by Bobby Gentry, "Captain St Lucifer" by Melba Moore, "Save The Country" by Thelma Houston, "Lazy Susan" by Liane Carroll, "He's A Runner" by Mama Cass, "Buy & Sell" by Nnena Freelon, "Lonely Women" by Linda Hoyle, "Eli's Coming" by Friends Of Distinction, and "Stoned Soul Picnic" by Staple Singers. Strawberry (UK), Mid 60s. New Copy 3CDs ... $28.99 34.99
The Beatles weren't just the biggest recording act on the scene in the mid 60s, they were also probably the most influential from a songwriting perspective too – such that countless other groups, singers, and musicians picked up their songs and gave them a try, including some tracks that The Beatles never recorded themselves! These aren't just hack cover versions, though – as the artists here clearly love the Fab Four, and are dedicated to unlocking ways that the music inspires them, and makes them seek their own expressions too – expressions that are presented here in full force, in a very cool package that mixes up rock, soul, jazz, folk, and other styles too – all in a massive 85 track set, with very detailed notes. Artists include Jackie Lynton, Marilyn Powell, The Merseymen, Dick Rivers, Mary Wells, Duffy Power, The Coterie, Mark Wynter, Strawberry Fair, Brotherhood, The Buckinghams, Madeline Bell, The Transatlantics, Count Basie, Jimmy James, Spanky & Our Gang, Zoot, Junior Parker, Jackie Trent, The Four Preps, PJ Proby, Mae West, Five Man Electrical Band, Dave Baby Cortez, and many others. Roulette, 1968. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sublime pop psych classic from Tommy James & The Shondells – a record that's quite different than some of the janglier work the group was issuing a few years before – and a perfect example of the way that just a few slight studio tricks can really transform a record! The tunes are all short and focused, but produced with lots of cool reverb, echo, and fuzzy touches on the sides – never overindulgent, and still plenty tuneful – but with so many weird little edges that they come through with a sound that's still pretty darn fresh after all these years – even if you think you know these guys from their hits. Titles include "Kathleen McArthur", "Do Something To Me", "I Am A Tangerine", "Smokey Roads", and "Breakaway" – plus the classic hits "Sugar On Sunday", "Crystal Blue Persuasion", and "Crimson & Clover". ✨✧ John LennonPlastic Ono Band ... LP
Apple, 1970. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The first true proper solo album by John Lennon – recorded after a few non-Beatles records with Yoko Ono, and at the same time as Yoko's much wilder album with a similar title! This one, though, is John at his best – very personal and exposed, in similar territory to Paul McCartney on his first solo record – and the whole thing is a fantastic testament to the humanity that Lennon always brought to his music, even at a time when some might have accused him of going off the deep end with some of his more experimental music. The record's got a relatively stripped-down vibe, although isn't entirely just voice and guitar – as other elements are brought in at just the right level to expand the sound without losing the Lennon at the core. Titles include "Mother", "Hold On", "I Found Out", "Working Class Hero", "Isolation", "Remember", "Love", "Well Well Well", "Look At Me", "God", and "My Mummy's Dead". LP, Vinyl record album

A searing live document of the magic of Ten Years After – recorded at London's Klooks Kleek as a great example of the kind of sound that got the group a huge amount of attention before they were even signed to a record label! The sound's still got some of the bluesy influences that both the group and that club were known for – but the guitar of Alvin Lee is really taking off, especially on the album's very long tracks – which seem to insist on solos that would go onto influence a whole psychedelic generation. The Hammond solos are great, too – and titles include "I May Be Wrong But I Won't Be Wrong Always", "Spider In My Web", "I'm Going Home", and a surprisingly great take on Woody Herman's "Woodchopper's Ball", which is completely transformed here! The 2 great albums by Big Star – back-to-back on CD! #1 Record is simply one of the best rock albums of the 70s – partly remembered as a defining moment in power pop, but to us there's a depth of emotion here that goes way beyond chords and choruses, and sinks into our very souls every time we listen to it! Indespensible Memphis rock, to say the very least. Titles include "Feel", "Ballad Of El Goodo", "In The Street", "The India Song", "When My Baby's Beside Me", "Give Me Another Chance", "Watch The Sunrise" and more. Radio City is also one of 70s rock's finest moments. With Chris Bell out of the picture, one could successfully argue the traits that it lacks from the first album, but this thing stands up as work of genius all its own – with a raw, shambling immediacy to the songs that cut incredibly deep. There's none of the "orchestra" trappings of other 70s records – nor some of Fahey's more longer-form ideas – and instead, the tracks focus mostly on his incredible sense of texture and timing on the acoustic guitar – heard to perfectly as he folds his own compositions together with songs by Bill Monroe, Bola Sete, Leo Kottke, and Doc Watson! The whole thing's wonderfully understated – even more so than you'd guess from the cover – and titles include "Silver Bell/Cheyenne", "Ann Arbor/Death By Reputation", "The Discovery Of Syliva Scott", "Guitar Lamnento", "Melody McBad", and "The Grand Finale". Apple, 1971. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Not the out there primal scream of Plastic Ono, and more of an impeccably produced, easy to love landmark from John Lennon! The title track, beautiful as it is, is so heavily ingrained into rock & roll myth making machine that it's become too easy to overlook how great most of the songs on the album are. It must be the most consistent of John's LPs post-Beatles, and it's just about as essential as they come. Co-produced by Phil Spector, yet it's often not as grandly orchestrated as a Wall Of Sound effort, and well tailored to Lennon's songs. Includes "Give Me Some Truth", "Oh My Love", "How Do You Sleep?", "Imagine", "Crippled Inside", "Jealous Guy" and "I Don't Want To Be A Soldier". LP, Vinyl record album

Laura Nyro's first album ever – originally issued by Verve/Forecast in the mid 60s, but brought back out on the market by Columbia, during the height of Nyro's early 70s fame for the label! Even at this early point, Nyro sounds wonderful – a fair bit more soulful than most other female pop singers of her time – with a fully-fleshed out approach to the vocals that's mature and sensitive, and almost a bit more confident at times than in later years. Arrangements are by Herb Bernstein, and almost have the same sort of sunny feel as The 5th Dimension in their famous covers of Nyro's tunes – again with more soul than we might have expected for the time. A fantastic classic from Savoy Brown – one of those records that shows just why these guys were so great during their short early run! The approach is maybe familiar blues rock, but the sound is also very special – with a great sense of fusion of all the elements, so that vocals, guitar, and rhythms all seem tightly tied together – still with the kind of bravado you might expect, and plenty of strong guitar from Kim Simmonds – but also given this focus that's really wonderful, especially when heavy piano lines come into the mix to almost give things a Mose Allison vibe, and added horns open up some currents of soul. A strong cut above the competition – with titles that include "Master Hare", "Needle & Spoon", "A Hard Way To Go", "That Same Feelin", "A Little More Wine", "I'm Crying", "Is That So", and "Stay While The Night Is Young". Ambitious folksy work from British trio Jade – a set that definitely fits into the best acid folk style of the time! There's often a bit of fuller backings in the mix here – nothing slick or commercial, but just a slight use of strings or other instrumentation to give the tunes the right sense of majesty and timing – especially when some well-placed piano lines are used alongside the acoustic guitar to underscore some of the best dark elements of the tunes. Vocals are never too trilling, nor too personal either – and there's almost a bit more confidence to Jade's approach than some of their contemporaries. Titles include "Amongst Anenomies", "Raven", "Fly On Strangewings", "Alan's Song", "Bad Magic", "Clippership", and "Five Of Us". LP, Vinyl record album

The set's a collaboration with female singer Shaun Murphey, aka Stoney – another talent from the Detroit scene, and working with Meatloaf in that effortless blend of soul, rock, and some funky psychedelic touches that some of their best Motor City contemporaries were doing at the time – but maybe even better! The record's got a tremendous sound, even without Meatloaf's later fame – and was put together with some great arrangements from David Van DePitte and Tom Baird – on titles that include "Jessica White", "Lady Be Mine", "Jimmy Bell", "Sunshine", "Game Of Love", "Kiss Me Again", It Takes All Kinds Of People", and "She Waits By The Window". That's a young Isaac Hayes on the cover, sitting at the piano next to David Porter – his key songwriting partner at Stax Records in the 60s – at a time before both artists had gone onto their own solo recordings for the label! The Hayes/Porter team gave Stax some of their best songs during the second half of the 60s – often numbers that have a hip, hard-grooving style that really pushed the boundaries of Memphis soul – and as you'll hear here, the duo's work was not just recorded for their main label, but also handled by a wealth of other artists too – mostly soul singers of the late 60s, but also featured here on a few later tracks as well. Those later cuts are ever bit as soulful as the 60s material that makes up most of the collection – and the package also features some unissued numbers too –served up here in a list of 24 titles that include "Can't Trust Your Neighbor" by Freddie King, "60 Minutes Of Your Love" by Homer Banks, "I'll Understand" by Edwin Starr & Blinky, "Left Over Love" by Ruby Johnson, "Hold On I'm Coming" by The Righteous Brothers, "You Got Me Hummin" by The Hassles, "I'm Dedicating My Life" by Danny White, "Love Is After Me" by Charlie Rich, "Your Good Thing" by Mable John, "You Don't Know Like I Know" by Keith Powell & Billie Davis, "Wrap It Up" by Archie Bell & The Drells, "Baby" by Rachel Sweet, "As Long As I've Got You" by The Emotions, "I Take What I Want" by The Bishops, "The Sweeter He Is (parts 1 & 2)" by Soul Children, and an unreleased alternate of "Toe Hold" by Johnnie Taylor. A one-off record by a UK group – but one that's gone on to become legendary over the years, thanks to a quality and vision in the music! These guys are perfectly poised at the later end of psych – still using all the right elements in all the right ways, but with more focus and tunefulness too – maybe a bit like that quality that The Move had right at the start, but which holds up in a very unique spirit here. It's almost like these guys decided that they liked all the shorter songs by Pink Floyd, then came up with some equally great material of their own – then called up Bill Wyman to produce the record. And the production is great – handled by Wyman, who sometimes gets too much credit for the record – as the genius is clearly the group's own. Dusty Springfield continues her exploration of American soul begun with the Dusty In Memphis album – but this time around, she's headed for Philly, where she gets to work with the Gamble & Huff production team! In a way, we like this work even better than Dusty's better-known Memphis recordings – because the gliding Philly groove of the time is a lot more fresh, and somehow doesn't sound as forced as some of Dusty's attempts at straighter, deeper soul. ✨✧ Thin LizzyThin Lizzy (London) ... LP
London, 1971. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The really wonderful debut of Thin Lizzy – a set that features a slightly different sound than their big 70s classics, but which is also completely wonderful, and shows that the group was already on a very clear path! There's a bit more acoustic guitar here than in later years – as Phil Lynott plays the instrument, and Eric Bell adds in 12 string guitar – both elements in the music that really give the songs a subtle sense of beauty, even while they still rock out heavily with those amazing Lynott lead vocals, as well as his great work on bass! The power of the album comes through right away – clearly very different than so much of the scene at the time – and titles include the fantastic "Friendly Ranger At Clontarf Castle", plus "Honesty Is No Excuse", "Ray-Gun", "Look What The Wind Blew In", "Clifton Garage Hotel", "Saga Of The Ageing Orphan", and "Remembering (Part 1)". ✨✧ WhoQuadrophenia (Original Master Recording) (longbox version) ... CD
MCA/Mobile Fidelity, 1973. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
CD

One of the craziest collections of Christmas music you'll ever hope to own – a fantastic assortment of rare and obscure Holiday singles from the record collection of The Cramps! The music is mostly from the end of the 50s and start of the 60s – a heyday not just for the 45rpm format, but also for mad experimentation in many styles of mainstream music – moments that could sometimes have the wit of a novelty single, or the searing power of a sonic powerhouse punch – all of which you'll get here on a hip assortment of 31 unusual songs of the season! ✨✧ VariousYulesville – 33 Rockin Rollin Christmas Blasters For The Cool Season ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Yulesville is coolsville – especially when it comes in the form of a killer collection of rare Christmas singles from the folks at Bear Family! The package is awash in the kind of groovy, sometimes goofy Holiday singles that broke big in the early years of rock and soul – a nice antidote to the sort of sleepier work that usually graced the record racks in earlier years – and the kind of music that's perfect for sipping egg nog into the wee small hours of Christmas morning! There's plenty of gems here that we've never heard before, and plenty of other great nuggets too – titles that include "Rock & Roll Christmas" by Cordell Jackson, "Wishing Is For Fools" by The Melodeers, "Jingle Jangle" by The Penguins, "Jingle Rock" by Tommy Lee & The Orbits, "Big White Cadillac" by Little Joey Farr, "Xmas Bell Rock" by Barry & The Highlights, "Twisten Bells" by Santo & Johnny, "Sleigh Bell Rock" by Three Aces & A Joker, "Winter Wonderland" by Allen & The Flames, "The Cactus Christmas Tree" by The McGuire Sisters, "It's Christmas Everywhere" by Paul Anka, "All Winter Long" by Linda Laure, and "Christmas Kisses" by The Bookends & Ray Anthony. 33 tracks in all! ✨✧ CaravanWaterloo Lily ... LP
London, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A bit of a shift in lineup for Caravan – but a set that has the group stepping out in all their fantastic proggy glory! This time around, Steve Miller provides some incredible work on electric piano, organ, and electric harpsichord – and the set also features some guest soprano sax work from Lol Coxhill, who'd later record wonderfully with Miller on Virgin Records – and whose presence here further underscores the qualities that make Caravan one of the jazziest groups of their prog generation! The classic core is wonderful too – Pye Hastings on guitars, Richard Sinclair on bass, and Richard Coughlan on drums – and the interplay between the latter two is fantastic, and really keeps the album driving onward. Titles include "Waterloo Lilly", "Songs & Signs", "Nothing At All", "Aristocracy", "The World Is Yours", and "The Love In Your Eye/To Catch Me A Brother/Subsultus/Debouchement/Tilbury Kecks". ✨✧ Marianne FaithfullMarianne Faithfull ... LP
London, 1965. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The second album from one of the most unique voices in British music in the 60s – a really sublime little set that moves beyond familiar folk, rock, and pop – to put Marianne Faithfull in a mighty special place that's all her own! Right from the very first note of her voice, Marianne's out to sound way different than the rest – with a darkness that almost echoes the solo work of Nico, but a warmer sound that still holds on to some of the previous Brit mode that inform the album. Arrangements are totally great – penned by David Whittaker, Mike Leander, and Jon Mark – conducted by Leander with an eerie sound that's really amazing. Titles include "Come & Stay With Me", "As Tears Go By", "Down Town", "I'm A Loser", "What Have I Done Wrong", "They Never Will Leave You", and "He'll Come Back To Me". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ John Lennon & Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono BandSome Time In New York City ... LP
Apple, 1972. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The most polarizing of John Lennon's post Beatles ouvre – the strident, Spector-produced, sprawling mess that is Some Time In New York City – a record that has too much of every idea John & Yoko had at the time, which makes it all the more fascinating after all these years! Angry, self-righteous and quite often brilliant – feminist anthems backed by Wall Of Sound pop, an ode to John Sinclair in the mold of a country rock tune – wild stuff from a superstar! Frank Zappa and the Mothers on side four! Include "Woman Is The Ni**** Of The World", "Sister, Oh Sister", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Attica State", "New York City" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
