✨✧ Enoch Light & The Light BrigadeFuture Sound Shock ... LP
Project 3, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the grooviest albums we've ever heard from Enoch – a set of lightly jazzy numbers with lots of cool touches! Some tracks are bossa-styled, others are a bit trippy, and a few even have some great percussion riffs that really liven up the sound. The instrumentation is nice and quirky too – with odd use of organ, horns, and piano – and titles include "The Girl From Ipanema", "Caravan", "Recado Bossa Nova", "Cute", "St Thomas", "Give Joy To The World", and "One Note Samba". ✨✧ Enoch LightBeatles Classics/Serendipity (SACD quadrophonic multi-channel) ... CD
Project 3/Vocalion (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pair of Enoch Light oddities from the 70s – both in Quad! First up is Beatles Classics – a very cool take on the sound of The Beatles – served up here by Enoch Light, but in a way that's a bit different than some of his other records of the time! The set features symphonic readings of tunes by the fab four – much more heavy on woodwinds and strings than you might expect, but still delivered with that sense of separation that can make Light's music so great – with solo standouts that are completely seductive! Titles include the suite "Hello Goodbye/Something/Penny Lane" – plus "Eleanor Rigby", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", "Let It Be", "Hey Jude", "Michelle", and "Norwegian Wood". Serendipity has reverse sort of approach – as the set takes classical themes, but strips them down a bit for the 70s – the unique Enoch Light spin on themes from Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, and Chopin! ✨✧ Tony MottolaTony & Strings/Close To You (SACD quadrophonic multi-channel) ... CD
Project 3/Vocalion (UK), Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pair of early 70s easy listening gems – back to back on an SACD! First up is Tony & Strings – on which the sweet guitar of Tony Mottola mixes with some well-arranged strings – all given the lean presentation of Enoch Light in the 70s, which makes for music that's a great change from the way such sounds would have been handled a decade before! Titles include "It's Going To Take Some Time", "Nature Boy", "The Candy Man", "Song Sung Blue", "Street Of Dreams", "Theme From The Godfather", and the originals "Marcello's Mazurka" and "Bossa La La La". Close To You is a sweet set that's billed as "guitar for lovers", and which has the lean sound of Tony Mottola updated nicely with some Project 3 touches for the 70s! The record's got an unusual mix of tracks – some 70s, some older, and even a Christmas tune too – and Bucky Pizzarelli and Dick Hyman make guest appearances too! Tites include "Wave", "Didn't We", "Close To You", "Moon River/What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life", "Yesterday When I Was Young", "We've Only Just Begun", and "The Christmas Song". CD

✨✧ Enoch LightSpaced Out ... LP
Project 3, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Quite possibly the grooviest album ever from Enoch Light – a trippy blend of many 60s styles, all put together with sublime Project 3 Sound! The album's billed as featuring "exploratory trips through the music of Bach, Bacharach, the Beatles – Integrating the Moog, the Guitar Scene, Electronic Harpsichord, Flugelhorns, etc" – and it definitely lives up to that bill, given the range of songs included! Rhythms are strong, and the use of sweetly compressed horn parts is very much in an A&M mode – as is the backing vocals, which are light and wonderful – a bit like Free Design, but more towards the territory of Singers Unlimited, although even groovier. The Beatles and Bacharach material is especially great – but even the Bach tunes come out wonderfully, given that most are re-arranged with a hip 60s soundtrack sort of groove – classical roots, but contemporary execution – especially when there's a bit of moog or electric harpsichord. Titles include "Walk On By", "Norweigan Wood", "What The World Needs Now", "Get Back", "Bond Street", "Petite Paulette", "My Silent Song", and "Lover's Concerto". LP, Vinyl record album

Mort GarsonDidn't You Hear ... LP
Sacred Bones, 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $18.99
One of the rarest albums ever from the legendary Mort Garson – an all-electronic film score, one that was originally only available on record in the lobby of a Seattle theater that was showing the film! The tracks are shorter than on some of Garson's more commercial projects of the time, and there's a lot more of them too – all with a vibe that resonates nicely with some of Mort's more private recordings, including some of his advertising work – showing that even though the project was a small one, Garson was still bringing his all to the music. Titles include "Sail Sail", "Kevin's Theme", "No Smoking", "Bamboo City", "Walk To Grange Hall", "Jeep Ride", "Dead Tree", "Walk To The Other Side Of The Island"- and "Virgil's Theme". Norio MaedaRock Communication Yagi Bushi ... LP
Crown/Teichiku (Japan), 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $49.99
Wicked funk from Japanese keyboardist Norio Maeda – also a hell of an arranger, too – as you'll hear on this superb set from the start of the 70s! The record's one of those key albums that took a 60s groovy Japanese sound much further into the future – giving the whole thing a sharper edge, with heavier drums – and using trippy guitar, weird flute lines, and keyboards to give the whole thing a vibe that's almost more blacksploitation or kung fu soundtrack than most of what Maeda had done before! Tracks are all pretty lively, and work together as a sweet set of grooves – almost with a funky Lalo Schifrin sort of vibe – and all the notes and titles are in Japanese, or else we'd have even more information to convey. Marshall McLuhan/Jerome AgelMedium Is The Massage ... CD
Columbia/Five Day Weekend, 1967. New Copy Gatefold ... $7.99 17.98
A real mind-trip – and an incredible document of the times – not just ideas floating around in the late 60s, but also new ways of making records too! The album is loosely based around ideas and writings from The Medium Is The Massage – McLuhan's important 1967 book, co-written with Quentin Fiore – and represented here as a wild sound collage that blends together music, sounds, media snippets, and readings by McLuhan, Fiore, and a host of other voices! The album's actually much more of a "happening" than a spoken word album – a real studio party that's cut up and messed up by all the added effects, sounds, and music – genius that comes from Jerome Agel, who put the whole project together – and delivered it to the loving hands of John Simon, who produced some other wonderful records of this nature for late 60s Columbia. A real delight throughout – and the kind of an album we wish people still kept making! Great reissue package – in a gatefold LP-styled sleeve, with additional artwork, rare photos, full notes on the sessions, and more! (Spoken Word, Now Sound) CD

✨✧ Maxwell DavisBatman & Other Themes ... CD
BGP (UK), 1966. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A Batman knock-off record – but a really great one! This set was originally issued in the mid 60s on the cheapo Crown label on the west coast – and it's a surprisingly smoking set of instrumental tracks that are heavy on the Hammond and horns, and which romp along with a mod sort of go-go groove! Only the leadoff track is actually a Batman one – and the rest are instrumentals penned by Maxwell Davies, titled in ways that really get at the grooviness of the set – "Harry Danger", "Super Chase", "Creepy Crawlers", "Lotta Trouble", "Irving Evil", and "Mean & Nasty". CD also features 3 bonus tracks from Davies' Harlem Brass project for Crown – including "Green Hornet Theme", "Tijuana Harlem", and "The Good The Bad & The Ugly". CD

✨✧ Francis LaiFrench Themes ... LP
United Artists, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Really great work from Francis Lai – that famous film composer from the French scene of the 60s and 70s – stepping out here on a host of instrumentals done as a non-soundtrack project! Many of the tunes are themes that Lai did for movies – including some from fairly rare soundtracks – but they're mixed here with non-film tunes, and served up in fresh versions – all of which make for the kind of nicely unified record that shows why Francis was to French cinema what guys like Armando Trovajoli or Stelvio Cipriani were to Italian movies! Titles include "Smic Smac Smoc", "La Fontaine", "Snow Frolic", "I Think Of You", "On Croit Que C'Est L'Amour", "Les Nuits Sont Trop Courtes", "La Solitude", "Les Petroleuses", and "Adagio Por Orgue Choeur & Cordes". ✨✧ Voices In Latin (Barbara Moore)Something Cool ... CD
Pulsar/Beatball (Korea), Late 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An incredibly groovy record from The Voices In Latin – a one-off studio project headed up by sound library legend Barbara Moore! The set is one of the few commercially-released albums that Moore ever did – and as you might guess from the group's name, the record's got a style that blends larger voices with Latin rhythms – kind of in a sound library take on the style of Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66! Some of the tunes here are familiar 60s pop numbers, but they're given a great new spin by Barbara and the group – and others are Moore originals, which are some of the grooviest in the bunch! Titles include "I've Walked Alone", "Busy", "Sara", "The Look Of Love", "Sunny", "Tea For Three", "Hideaway", and "Biding My Time". (Vocalists, Now Sound) CD
