✨✧ Vic ChesnuttLittle ... CD
Texas Hotel, 1990. Used ... Out Of Stock
Vic Chesnutt's debut, produced by Vic fan and champion Michael Stipe of REM, who smartly puts Vic's distinctive drawl and unvarnished guitar strumming front-and-center! His voice and these songs might not be conventionally pretty, but they sure are beautiful in their one-of-a-kind, uncompromising approach to the singer-songwriter genre. Recorded in a single day, Little is a defining early effort that would set the stage for a remarkable run of wonderful recordings by Vic, who lived to see his work loved and appreciated by peers and devoted fanbase, if never coming close to a mainstream breakthrough. Vic's voice, guitar, and the pictures they paint are the main thing here, with some occasional, spare bits of keyboards and backing vocals, adding just a bit of texture. You either "get" Vic or you don't. We we think he was a genius. Includes "Isadora Duncan", "Danny Carlisle", "Mr. Reilly", "Rabbit Box", "Speed Racer", "Soft Picasso", "Geppetto", "Bakersfield" and more. This great 2016 pressing on New West has 5 bonus tracks: "Bernadette", "Vernon", "Acting So Bad", "Miss Mary" and "Elberton Fair". (Rock, Folk/Country) CD

✨✧ VariousEarl's Closet – The Lost Archive Of Earl McGrath 1970 to 1980 (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
Light In The Attic, 1970s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Earl McGrath looks pretty darn cool on the cover, and from all reports he was a pretty darn cool guy in the 70s too – head of Rolling Stones Records, and friend and confidant to some very hip folks in the music industry! After Earl passed, a closet full of unreleased tapes was discovered at his home – really wonderful material by artists big and small, brought together here in a treasure trove of tracks that give us a whole different look at the 70s! Given the obscurity, most titles are demo recordings with lean instrumentation – but that quality makes the work by big stars even more interesting, and really delivers the best work of the special singer/songwriters that McGrath would always champion. Titles include "Cocaine Cowboy" and "Gonna California" by Terry Allen, "California" by Mark Rodney, "Baby Come Closer" and "Dry In The Sun" by Hall & Oates, "Funky But Chic" by David Johansen, "Tension" by Jim Carroll, "Oh La La" by Shadow, "Christopher" by Michael McCarty, "Holy Commotion" by Paul Potash, "Sail Away" by Jabor, "Invisible Lady" by Johnny Angel, "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" by Blood Brothers Six, and "Salt Showers" by Len & Betsy Green. ✨✧ Kris KristoffersonKristofferson ... LP
Monument, 1970. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The amazing debut of Kris Kristofferson as a singer – long overdue, given that his songs had been championed by others as some of the hippest in Nashville at the end of the 60s! Every track is a gem – and the record starts with the biting, decidedly non-country "Blame It On The Stones" – then rolls through classics that include "The Best Of All Possible Worlds", "To Beat The Devil", "The Law Is For The Protection Of The People", "For The Good Times", "Darby's Castle", and "Duvalier's Dream" – plus Kris' impeccable readings of "Me & Bobby McGee" and "Sunday Mornin Comin Down". LP, Vinyl record album
(US presing with "April 70" labels. Cover has ring and edge wear, yellowing from age, and some price sticker remnants.)

✨✧ Willie NelsonRed Headed Stranger ... LP
Columbia, 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Willie's finest hour! The Nashville establishment was as horrid in the 70s as it is today, with glitzy, soulless, committee-thought pop garbage ruling the scene – so Willie, who had ironically been a hit songwriter for a decade packed it up for Austin and churned out the spare, haunting and wholly unique Red Headed Stranger in a couple of days. The LP was a huge commercial and critical success, with everyone up to and including Miles Davis singing its praises. Red Headed Stranger didn't change the world the way its champions hoped – Nashville is still pretty much an aesthetic hell hole. But the record will live on forever, and it's a crucial addition to anyone's collection who cherishes pure individualistic music that was fortunate enough to find popular success. Titles include "I Couldn't Believe It Was True", "Red Headed Stranger", "Just As I Am", "Denver", "Remember Me", "Hands On The Wheel", "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" and much more. LP, Vinyl record album
