new Roberto Faz Y Su Conjunto — Pachanga Y Algo Mas ... CD
Maype, Early 60s. New Copy .... $9.99 12.99
Pachanga and plenty more – thanks to a nice blend of rhythms that really make the album sparkle! Instrumentation is heavy on horns, and not the usual mix you might expect from a pachanga album – and the percussion kicks along strongly on most numbers, grooving a good number of tracks in a montuno mode! And although there's a few boleros, even these have a nice edge – kind of a harder bottom than usual, which makes them well worth checking out. Titles include "La Pachanga", "Retozon", "Quedate Como Estas", "A La Timba", "La Mujer Puertorriquena", "Cuando Tu Me Quieras", "Para Gozar Cubita", "Cha Cha Cha Bururu", and "Feliz Ilusion".

new Coke — Coke ... LP
Sound Triangle, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Funky Latin breaks and very groovy grooves – the kind of record that you hear for only a second, and say "oh yeah, this is the stuff!" Coke were an obscure Florida combo who mixed together Latin, funk, and soul – served up in a crossover style that's halfway between the sound of the NuYorican generation and the heavier hitters of LA's Chicano funk scene! Instrumentation includes organ, guitar, and trumpets – and vocals are delivered in a brown eyed soul style that burns nicely with the heavier grooves of the group. But best of all is the drummer, who really kicks it large on the kit – and creates some really nice funky numbers on the set! Includes the break classic "Na Na", plus the tunes "Got To Touch Your Face", "Te Amo Mas", "Quiero Decirte", "Bang Bang", "Bun Bun Bun", "You Turn Me On", and "Que Seria De Mi". A really great album – with a totally unique sound!

new Ray Barretto — Head Sounds ... LP
Fania, 1972. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99 Out Of Stock
"Head Sounds" is a heck of a great way to describe this album – as it's filled with some of Ray's most mind-expanding cuts! The album kicks off with the tune "Acid", which you probably know from the album of the same name, but which still really does a great job of setting the pace here – and then it rolls into some fantastic longer cuts that really have a very strong jazz component. Ray and the group stretch out tremendously, hitting off-color notes and tones that almost make the record feel like one of Eddie Palmieri's jammers from the same time. 3 tracks on the set are over 8 minutes long, which should give you a good feel of the openness of the work – and titles include "Abidjan", "Espiritu Libre", "Drum Poem", and "Tin Tin Deo".
