MED — Classic (limited edition 3LP version with instrumentals) ... LP
Stones Throw, 2011. New Copy 3LP .... $23.99
A built-to-last effort from MED, hence the title – a classic hip hop styled set with sharp rhymes and great production – straight up hip hop on Stones Throw that's straight up solid! As long as we've welcomed verses from the rhymer formerly known as Medaphoar, it's actually kind of a shock to think about it and realize that Classic is only his second proper album. It's a strong one – no filler whatsoever, with production by Madlib on 10 of 14 tracks – plus Georgia Anne Muldrow, Oh No, Alchemist and Karriem Riggins on the remaining joints. Guests include Talib Kweli, Oh NOo, Planet Asia, Kurupt and Aloe Blacc. Includes "Int'l", "Where I'm From" feat Aloe Blacc, "Too Late", "War & Love" feat Oh No, "Classic" feat Talib Kweli, "Get That" feat POK, "JWF", "Roll Out" feat Planet Asia & Kurupt, "Blaxican", "Outta Control" feat Hodgy Beats, "Flying High", "Medical Card", "1 Life 2 Live" and "Mystical Card".

new Beat Konducta (Madlib) — Beat Konducta Vol 4 – Beat Konducta In India ... LP
Stones Throw, 2007. New Copy .... $12.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
The long awaited sides C & D in Madlib's incredible blend of Bombay soundtrack-styled funk, blunted Eastern beats, and all round stunning Middle Eastern accented hip hop instros! This time out Madlib, er, Beat Konducta is conducting beats, strings & things from India and/or otherwise East – but the way in which the beats bluntly thump is quintessential Madlib – you know it and love it from the first beat! 'Lib really breathes fresh life into this approach – going miles deeper than anyone out there doing the Bollywood-hip hop hybrid – coming up with a sound all his own. Amazing! "Get It Right", "More Rice", "Indian Bells", "Club Scene", "Duel", "Organ Stroll", "In The Cave", "Malfunction", "Victory", "Smoke Circle", "Raw Ground Wire", "New Bombay", "Shah Sound", "Another Getaway", and more.

new Homeboy Sandman — Kool Herc – Fertile Crescent EP (plus download) ... LP
Stones Throw, 2013. New Copy .... $8.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Homeboy Sandman delivers a nicely gritty EP for Stones Throw – paying tribute not only to the legendary DJ Kool Herc in the title – and ultimately honoring blueprint, funky break beats era hip hop in general! Homeboy specifically names it after Kool Herc, but it's not a covers EP or collaboration – it's more to pay tribute to the era Herc personifies, albeit in a fresh contemporary way. Sandman's rhymes are as freewheeling and creative as ever, but he's showing a bit of verbal restraint here, and he's more about solidly matching the ompellingly gritty production by Rthentic – as opposed to taking the word count to a surreal level. Great stuff – and pretty generously packed for an EP. 8 tracks in all: "My Brothers", "Oh, The Horror", "Lonely People", "Dag, Philly Too", "Moon", "Men Are Mortal", "Peace & Love" and "I".

new Karriem Riggins — Alone (plus download) ... LP
Stones Throw, 2012. New Copy .... $12.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
The Alone sides of the Alone Together project from producer, beatmaker and instrumentalist Karriem Riggins – who's a brilliant jazz drummer, when that's what he wants to do – and he's also a beat-heavy hip hop production guru when duty calls! It finds Karriem wearing his hip hop instrumentalist hat, and he wears it very well – in a way that reminds us a bit of fellow Detroit-raised maestro J Dilla. Karriem's pedigree as a live drummer informs his MPC 3000 experimentation very nicely, too – as he holds an insistent jazzy soul beat underneath boundless sampler atmosphere. On vinyl, Alone Together is separately released in halves – and Alone features 17 tracks: "Round The Outside", "Moogy Foog It", "Orbitz", "Forward Motion", "Esperanza", "Africa", "Double Trouble", "Ding Dong Bells", "Water", "Double Trouble and more.
(Includes MP3 download, cover is slightly different.)

new J Dilla — Ruff Draft – Instrumentals ... LP
Stones Throw/Fat Beats, 2003/2007. New Copy (reissue).... $12.99 Out Of Stock
J Dilla at his grittiest, most rugged & raw – in both the production and rhyme realm – with all beats and rhymes by the Dilla himself! This set originally opened our ears to a different side of Dilla, a harder hitting aesthetic, with beats and grooves from out of leftfield that draw you in and hypnotize. Ruff Draft was originally released as a vinyl only EP for the European market, and it was tough to get ahold of from the get go – so hats off to Stones Throw for giving it the reverent re-release it deserves – fleshed out with bonus tracks! Titles include "Let's Take It Back", "Reckless Driving", "Nothing Like This", "The $", "Man 'Em NV", "Crushin'", "Wild" (a previously unreleased track that's nothing short of mindblowing – a minimalist masterpiece), "Take Notice" and more. 10 tracks.
(Back in print! Now with a color print sleeve.)

new Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom) — Madvillainy ... LP
Stones Throw, 2004. New Copy 2 LPs .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
A Stones Throw sci-fi masterpiece – one that was destined for greatness from conception, but we're still pretty well blown away by the final product! MC Doom and beatmaster Madlib couldn't be better suited for a collaboration. As much as we've dug the best of Doom's material of the last couple years, he's always needed a good editor – and Madlib brings nothing but the best sci-fi sound collages, scratches, and titanically driving funky beats – the grooved out 70s side of 'Lib's personality is wisely given a powder, while in the company of a vocal presence that's as insane as Doom. When it's not so pounding, the sound drops into the kinda gloomy, murky crackle of earliest Wu Tang. This is easily the best album of its kind since Dr. Octagon tore the flood gates open. Essential!!! "The Illest Villains", "Accordian", "Bistro", "Raid" feat Medaphoar, "America's Most Blunted", "Rainbows", "Curls", "Money Folder", "Hardcore Hustle","Fancy Clown", "Supervillain", "All Caps", "Rhinestone Cowboy" and more.

new Homeboy Sandman — First Of A Living Breed (with download) ... LP
Stones Throw, 2012. New Copy 2LP .... $16.99 Out Of Stock
The dizzyingly creative rhymer Homeboy Sandman's first full length for Stones Throw – an MC who makes no bones about his against the grain stylistic approach – and it's one of the rare hip hop albums of the past couple of years to benefit from sprawling list of producer credits! Homeboy Sandman's indefatigable vocal presence is his selling point, and he's served well by a diverse backdrop of beats – and he thrives in all them! Beats by Jonwayne, Oddisee, J57, Reality, RNTC, Oh No, 6th Sense and others. Includes "Rain", "Watchu' Want From Me?", "Sputnik", "Illuminati", "For The Kids", "Cedar & Sedgwick", "Mine All Mine", "Not Really", "Th Ancient","First Of A Living Breed", "Let's Get 'Em" and more.
(Includes digital download card.)

new J Dilla (Jay Dee) — Donuts ... LP
Stones Throw, 2005. New Copy 2LP .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
The classic batch of instrumentals from J Dilla – one that strongly transcends the hip hop genre – and perhaps his rawest, and most adventurous listening experience ever! The loopy soul samples, rich synth/electro shine, and thumping bass and soul beats that Dilla largely made his name on are laced throughout, but he also takes things a step into stranger territory – with spacey elements that buzz as much as they groove! The cuts are never less than soulful and funky, and never really steps into his peer Madlib's brand of the weeded out style, either. We love how raw this all feels, too! It's easily identifiable as the work of Jay Dee, but at the same time, wholly unpredictable! One of the best releases that Stone's Throw ever released – instrumental or vocal! Includes "Donuts (Intro & Outro)", "Workinonit", "Waves", "Light My Fire", "People", "Mash", "Airworks", "Lightworks", "Stepson Of The Clapper", "One Eleven", "Don't Cry", "Geek Down", "Thunder", "Gobstopper", "Walkinonit", "U-Love", "Last Donut Of The Night" and more.

new Madlib — Shades Of Blue – Madlib Invades Blue Note ... LP
Blue Note, 2003. New Copy 2LP .... $11.99
Madlib invades Blue Note! He gets free reign of the catalog for this mix of sampler genius and live band interpretations, too, as/with Ahmad Miller, Yesterdays New Quintet, Malcolm Catto, Medaphoar, and others from the Stones Throw camp. This one's truly a conceptual triumph, if there ever was such a thing – one of the greatest hip hop producers alive, given carte blanche with the source beats of the century! Madlib's Blue Note crates are heavily weighed in the mid 60s through mid 70s electric beats that often get the shaft in mainstream jazz round-ups, but floor the beathead world into overdrive. Re-interpretations, remixes, and revisions are spliced seamlessly with the source samples, creating a whole new world where hip hop and late model live funk not only co-exists with classic Blue Note jazz, but it actually draws a linear transition between the 2 genius art forms. Beautiful stuff – if the album isn't the most original idea to come along all of these years into the hip hop & jazz underground, it's certainly one of the most perfectly realized projects of its kind, ever! It's one for the time capsule – easily Madlib's masterpiece, and pure funky sample wizardry by any standard! Includes Monk Higgins' "Slim's Return" interpreted by Ahmad Miller and DJ Lord Such on cuts, "Donald Byrd's "Distant Land", "Ronnie Foster's "Mystic Bounce", Yesterday's New Quintet's adaptation of Wayne Shorter's "Footprints", Madlib Invazion's "Funky Blue Note", the Joe McDuphrey Experience take on Horace Silver's/Herbie Hancock's "Peace/Dolphin Dance" and lots more.
