Defari's underground hit that proved that LA MC's don't have to fall into the trap of Death Row-type gangsta on one side and the we're-boring-but-at least-we're-underground sound on the other. 12-inch, Vinyl record

New Little BrotherListening ... CD
ABB, 2002. Used .... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The debut from North Carolina organic hip hop crew Little Brother – an unexpectly strong and soulful effort in the vein of the Roots, mid-career Tribe Called Quest, and early Slum Village! The trio of Phonte, Pooh, and 9th Wonder have been kicking around Durham, NC and the southern hip hop scene for a while – representing the Justus League collective and other groups – but they have a stronger foundation with Little Brother that should make them known the world over if there's any true justice out there! Fans of the Okayplayers and the above mentioned artists will find much to love here – laid back, southern-drenched soulful hip hop (as opposed to hip hop soul) – and let's all thank ABB for thinking beyond the Bay, nurturing some truly worthy status quo defying artists, and giving the south some left coast indie support!!! Tracks include "Morning", "Groupie Pt. 2", "For You", "Speed", "Whatever You Say", "Make Me Hot", "Shorty On The Lookout", "The Way you Do It", "The Getup" and more. 17 tracks, playing just north of an hour. Little BrotherChittlin Circuit 1.5 – Unreleased Tracks, B-Sides & Remixes ... CD
Fastlife, 2005. Used .... $8.99
A tasty helping of material from Justus League flagship Little Brother – who lit the underground ablaze a couple years ago with their debut on ABB – and hope to do the same in '05 when the Minstrel Show drops on Atlantic! Chitlin Circuit features unreleased tracks, remixes and b-sides – largely produced by 9th Wonder (natch) and Khrysis, with some guest turns by Nicolay and Young Guru. There's some damn strong s**t here – featuring the crew's signature soulful and string-laden funk production – with the tougher wordplay they've been rockin' in the couple of years since The Listening! 18 tracks in all: "War", "Third Party" feat Joe Scudda, "Honorable" feat Chaundon, "Yo-Yo (rmx)", "Nighttime Maneuvers" (rmx), "Altitudes", "Welcome To Durham" featuring Big Daddy Kane, "Flash And Flare" feat LEGACY, "Take It There", "The Beginning" feat Yahzarah and more! Rawkus, 1999. Near Mint- .... $0.99
After one or two misses, Mr. Complex is back up to the standards of his first amazing single, "Why Don't Cha" back in 1997. This one uses a little harder production than that single, sort of along the lines of the recent Pharoahe Monch, who does a few verses on "Gitcha Gitcha Gitcha." 12-inch, Vinyl record

Modern mic legend Talib Kweli delivers once again – with busy, brilliant rhymes and diverse production backdrop – and appearances by guitarist Gary Clark Jr, Big KRIT, Raekwon, Abby Dobson, The Underachievers and more. Kweli has been killing mics since the 90s, and much to our appreciation he's still sounds like a hungry young gun after all these years – and proudly carrying the torch for mic centric hip hop. Includes "Inner Monologue", the standout "Demonology" with Big KRIT & Gary Clark Jr, "State Of Grace" feat Abby Dobson, "Violations" feat Raekwon, "New Leaders" feat The Underachievers, "The Wormhole", "What's Real" feat RES, "Art Imitates Life" feat Black Thought, Rah Digga and Albe Back, "Lover's Peak" and "Colors Of You" feat Mike Posner.
