A whole new set of mod soul smokers – contemporary cuts, but mostly recorded with a vibe that hearkens back to the sound of London in the 60s – which means plenty of influence from Motown and other Northern Soul sources, plus an occasional touch of jazzy Hammond too! These tracks are all recent, but really showcase the Acid Jazz talent for getting an older style right – not exactly pure 60s, but more the best Brit blue-eyed modes – of the sort you might have heard when Style Council could hit a groover like this, or when some of the more recent Acid Jazz acts are at their best. Kenny Dope and Keb Darge together – an amazing team that's already resulted in some incredible records! Both Kenny and Keb are well-known for their record-hounding skills – and they've turned that energy towards the incredible Kay-Dee label – home to killer 45s both old and new, and fast becoming one of the best sources for all things deep and funky! This tasty little set brings together some of the best work unearthed by the pair – some of it in Kenny Dope edits that firmly respect the structure of the original tunes, but bring up the funkiest elements that might have been slightly buried in the original studio mix.
