A heavy slab of jam band funk! Mushroom are a heavy jamming funk outfit with a classic groove – working hard with horns and Fender Rhodes to craft up solid slabs of groove, circa early 70s Atlantic Records vintage. This 5 track ep has about as much music as you'd find on a regular album – and it's awash with great remixes, like the Bundy K Brown remix of "American's Own The Moon", and the Quintus Kannegiesser remix of "Let's Have Sex", both of which are considerably more modern sounding than some of the other tracks on the set, like the group's cover of "Compared To What" or the original "Foxy Music".

Raw instrumental funk from the mighty Soul Investigators – true trailblazers on the international funk revival scene! This Finnish combo started recording raw, searing takes on classic funk in the late 90s – and from there cut some incredible, and now quite rare funky 45s – and many of those stellar tracks are on the great Home Cooking set. It's a fantastic collection of deep funk instrumentals – and we couldn't be more thankful this group – who paved the way for the thriving, worldwide funky soul scene! The second album from Chicago's great raw soul torch carriers JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound – their debut for Bloodshot, and a record that's gonna catapult them to the forefront of the live soul scene, in the Chi and everywhere else! The group's proved over the past couple years, via their raw, yet propellant debut album, some great singles, and furious live show schedule, that they're poised to deliver in a bigger way. On Want More they do that and, uh. . .a bit more! JC's a rare singer who can both shout out in a gritty funk mode and coo with charisma on slower soul anthems, and the group delivers on both fronts, too. Producer Jimmy Sutton captures them perfectly. The core group features Billy Bungeroth on guitar, Kevin Marks on drums & percussion and Ben Taylor on bass. Hammond beat grooves from The Qualitons – representing funky Budapest! The Qualitons are a unique group in the funky organ underground, regardless of region – drawing from a well of influences that range from rave up funk to wild-eyed vintage R&B & garage rock. It's really exciting stuff, and feels no more or less authentic than the influences – generally with a hard driving undercurrent of heavy drums and thick washes of organ. The strains of beat group and garage rock give it them an incendiary edge that we just love, but they slow it down in spots that show quite a range, and these guys can seriously play! The group is armed with a couple vocal tunes and a bunch of great instrumentals. Titles include "C'mon Baby", "Get Heavy With Me", "Overdose", "Ejjel A Sotetben", "Wandering Will", "AC Blues", "Soul Bowl/Kekfeny", "Aua", "More Plutonium" and more.

Plenty of rhythm here – tight small combo funk, or funky jazz if you prefer – played in a great no-nonsense style! The group's just guitar, bass, and drums – but they've got energy that's much more that of a funk combo than a jazz trio – thanks to arrangements from Japanese groovemeister Farah, who also produced the set! Lots of the tunes echo a sweet 70s style of funk, and the lean presentation makes the whole thing sound even better – as you'll hear on cuts that include "Real Love", "Boy You Knock Me Out", "Right Here", "Angel", "You Gotta Be", and "Summer Bunnies".
