new Dap-Kings — Nervous Like Me (orig, beats) (black vinyl) ... 7-inch
Kay Dee, 2004. New Copy .... $5.99
An absolute, hard-charging funk hammer from the Dap-Kings – an incredible instrumental co-written and co-produced by Dapper Bosco Mann and Kenny Dope! If "Nervous Like Me" has a title that reflects some kind of timidity, the track is anything but! It's simply pummeling – with a rhythm that kicks out from some stealth bongo and rolling trap that build into some playful guitar and bass response until the horns crash and boom! The beats on the flip isolate the funky drums, providing the perfect track to rhyme over, if you're so-inclined. Another jackhammer blast from one of the tightest units in the funk underground!

New Mastersounds — Nervous (orig, bonus beats) ... 7-inch
Kay Dee, 2003. New Copy .... $5.99
Great work from the British kings of the funky 45 – they turned out another doozy! "Nervous" grooves like a heavy duty funk track – drums kicking it up all over the place underneath, while guitar strings out the riff in a "I Know You Got Soul" mode, and horns blast over the top! And believe it or not, it's their version of an original track by Kenny Dope!

Nuyorican Soul — Nervous Track (parts 1 & 2)/Mind Fluid (parts 1 & 2) (2 x 7" singles) ... 7-inch
Kay Dee, 2013. New Copy 2 x 7" (pic cover).... $13.99
A brilliant package that brings back two classic grooves from Kenny Dope and Louie Vega! First up is the legendary "Nervous Track" – a tune that's got this wonderfully syncopated snare – snapping along with break-like energy alongside some more house-heavy bass – all topped by this compelling keyboard line that's mighty nice! Congas are working at the core – definitely showing the Latin interests of the pair. "Mind Fluid" is another great club track from way back – similarly rich and full, and with this swirling energy that really shows a tremendous amount of musical growth since the first cut – that great style that pushed Kenny and Louie way past conventional club – into a territory that was all their own!

new Tex Soul & The Bayonets — Uto Nwa/Osi Na Ngada ... 7-inch
Academy/Voodoo Funk, Mid 70s. New Copy (pic cover, reissue).... $7.99 Out Of Stock
Breaking drums, popping organ, and fuzzy guitar – all exploding at the start of this rare funky nugget – and setting fire to the tune right from the beginning! There's a nervous, jumpy sort of energy to "Uto Nwa" – one that not only sets it apart from other Afro funk gems of the time – but which also has enough core funk to earn Tex the "soul" in his name on the cover! The flipside follows up with "Osi Na Nganda" – a tune with raw conga rhythms, bursts of freaky organ, and this loping groove that's really wonderful
(Limited to 1000 copies.)
