Derek Bailey — Improvisation ... LP
Cramps/Mirumir (Italy), 1975. New Copy (reissue).... $22.99
A well-titled album from the legendary Derek Bailey – definitely a set that lives up to his tremendous reputation over the years! Bailey plays solo guitar here – working through a set of short improvised pieces, and coming up with sounds that are simply incredible – especially for an era when highly experimental records like this weren't often issued. Bailey's work on the strings of the guitar is far different than just about anyone before – and most players since – more sounds than notes, and often very abstract – but with a quality that all somehow makes sense – which is a great contrast to so many of the folks who tried to imitate this music in later years. The album's one of the best illustrations both of Bailey's mighty talents, and of the influence he had in following years – and it features 14 tracks, titled simply "M1", "M2", etc – all of them great!

Suzanne Ciani — Seven Waves/Voices Of Packaged Souls ... CD
Bird (UK), 1970/1982. New Copy .... $18.99
The rare and originally Japanese-only Seven Waves album from electronic musician Suzanne Ciani – plus her even rarer Voices Of Packaged Souls from 12 years earlier – together in a single set from Bird/Finders Keepers! Seven Waves was originally issued in the early 80s, and composed on a host of instruments that no longer exist! It's got a spare, ethereal sound – with an electronic vibe that's right up there with some of the best German or French soundtrack albums of this nature from the time – kind of post-Cluster, post-Tangerine Dream material – with shorter tunes and a great melodic focus! Titles include "Sirens", "Love In The Waves", "Wind In The Sea", "Sailing Away", "Water Lullaby", and "Birth Of Venus". Voices Of Packaged Souls is one of the first-ever albums to feature the music of Suzanne Ciani – and one of the wildest, too! The set was originally pressed up in a tiny 50 copy run – as part of an art exhibit in Brussels to feature a sound sculpture collaboration between Ciani and another artist – filled with loads of weird, wild, offbeat electronics by Suzanne – including some cool processed vocal passages, and loads of spare, stark sounds that work together as a beautiful collage – moving from noise to notes to noise and back again! This is the first time the Voices Of Packaged Souls material has ever appeared on CD – and the titles include "Sound Of Heat", "Sound Of Wetness", "Sound Of Love Turning", "Sound Of A Lighted Window", "Sound Of A Dream Kissing", "And All Dreams Are Not For Sale" and many more.

Peter Grudzien — Unicorn/Garden Of Love ... LP
Subliminal Sounds, 1974. New Copy 2LP (reissue).... $34.99
Peter Gruzien's legendary underground loner psych country record The Unicorn from 1974 – reissued here with a bonus second LP Garden Of Love – which features odds and ends written and recorded from the late 50s through the 70s! The Unicorn is a cool and strange mix of spare honky tonk musical backdrops, oddball keyboards and trippy effects, plaintive, charismatic drawl vocals and lyrics that are in turns staight up and wildly surrealistic. Titles include "Innocents", "The Unicorn", "White Trash Hillbilly Trick", "Satan's Horn", "The Lost World", "Redemtion And Prayer", "Return Of The Unicorn" and more. Garden Of Love features songs that are for the most part less trippy lyrically, but it's ultimately just as otherworldly thanks to the lo fi vibe! Titles include "The Garden Of Love", "Alone Amongst The Crowd", "Kiss Me Another", "The Bills", "Echoing Footsteps", "Stonewall" and more. 2LPs of crucial esoteric Americana!
(Limited to 500 copies.)

Pierre Henry — Odyssee (10CD set) ... CD
Universal (France), 1960s/1982/Late 2000s. New Copy 10 CDs .... $52.99
A really well-titled collection – given that it features the most important steps in the long musical journey of Pierre Henry – easily one of the most important electronic musicians of the 20th Century! The package offers a heck of a lot of amazing music for the price – and is very heavy on Henry's crucial 60s recordings – including both his funky analogue grooves, and his much more abstract sonic compositions! Much of this material has been issued over the years, but never in a package this complete – and the depth of the sounds here is stunning – a set that should be given as a textbook to anyone who ever thinks about making any sort of electronic music. Works include "Messe De Liverpool (1967)", "Pierres Reflechies (1982)", "Coexistence (1958)", "Mouvement Rhythm Etude (1970)", "La Noire A Soixante/Granulometrie (1967)", "Variations Pour Une Porte Et Un Soupir (1963)", "Le Voyage (1962)", "Futuristie (1975)", "Messe Pour Le Temps Present (1967)", "Le Xeme Remix (1998)", "Envol (2010)", "L'Art De La Fugu Odyssee (2011)", "Pulsations (2007)", and the previously unreleased "Le Fil De La Vie", which features cool shakuhachi!

Attilio ''Art'' Mineo — Man In Space With Sounds ... LP
Subliminal Sounds, 1962/1998. New Copy (reissue).... $28.99
Wonderful sounds from space – put together in a rare album that was initially issued in a small batch, to coincide with the Seattle Worlds Fair in the early 60! For the set, Art Mineo comes up with an amazing batch of spacey sounds that were played at the fair in conjunction with a machine called the "Bubbleator" – a weird transparent elevator – and although Mineo had recorded the music a decade before, it fits surprisingly well for the setting – thanks to quality that's definitely futuristic! There's no electronic instrumentation on the LP, but the sound is off-kilter and mighty weird – with an atonal quality that sounds like it's being made by early computer music instruments, but which is really just a string section and percussion – played in a strange, otherwordly way! The music is spooky, spare, and with an arch-evil sound that's made the record a space age classic since the day it was released.
(Limited to 500 copies.)

Moondog — Snaketime Series By Moondog (aka Moondog) ... LP
Moondog, 1956. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
One of the best early albums from the legendary Moondog – a set that got wider circulation than his first few releases, and really helped expand his reach beyond New York City! Moondog's still at his simple best here – working in a blend of rhythmic percussion, stringed instruments, flute, and other rootsy instrumentation – all with echoes of Eastern styles, but served in a way that definitely has more of a touch of American exotica! All numbers are played by small groups – or even solo by Moondog – and any vocalizations take on almost an instrumental feel – sliding in alongside sound effects, animal noises, and other obscure utterings. The album's almost the art world equivalent of Martin Denny – but has a lot more depth than easy kitsch – and is still tremendously powerful stuff all these years later! Titles include "Caribea", "Big Cat", "Frog Bog", "To A Sea Horse", "Surf Session" and "Trees Against The Sky". This reissue is the original version of the record that was also issued as Moondog on Prestige.
