new Various -- All Killer -- Finders Keepers 1 to 20 -- Mixed By The Gaslamp Killer ... CD
Twisted Nerve/B- Music, Late 60s/1970s/2009. New Copy .... $14.99 15.98 Temporarily Out Of Stock
An excellent mix of some of the best lost folk funk, tripped out psychedelia, 60s & 70s material from the global underground from Finders Keepers -- but far cooler than a mere sampler -- an aurally exciting blend of the material courtesy of the Gaslamp Killer! For this excellent set, eclectic LA DJ guru Gaslamp Killer was given the keys to the Finders Keepers vaults to craft an evocative set of his own, from the sounds found on the first 20 Finders Keepers releases. Turkish rock from Ersen, wild soundtrack grooves from Valerie & Her Week Of Wonders composer Lubos Fiser, instrumental French funk from Jean Claude Vannier, and so much more! All Killer has 12 tracks that are each expertly blended suites of Finders Keepers releases, including "The Sermon" by Lubos Fiser, "Les Garde Volent Au Secours Du Roi" and more by Jean Claude Vannier, "Dance Of The Vampires" by Vampires Of Dartmoore, "Gunese Don Cicegim" by Ersen, "Les Electroniciens" by Bruno Spoerri, "Zeytinyagi" by Mustafa Ozkent, "Europa" by by Susan Christie and more.

Various -- Well Hung -- Funk Rock Eruptions From Beneath Communist Hungary ... LP
Finders Keepers (UK), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold .... $21.99
An amazing collection of funky work from Communist Hungary -- music that's really making us change our opinion about the Cold War! Back in the day, we used to think the Iron Curtain was in place to keep out Western forces -- but now we know it was there to keep in groovy music like this -- secret underground grooves that explode with the power of a thousand ICBMs! The core style here is mostly rock, but the groups bring in plenty of funk too -- heavy drums, rumbling bass, and fuzzy guitar that really make these cuts groove nicely -- in ways that are similar to some of the more proggish fusion that's been compiled from the Eastern European scene of the 70s, but usually in a more tuneful, lyric-oriented way. And while you can't understand most of the words in the songs, that's nothing to worry about at all -- because these cuts are all musical gems through and through, and the lack of meaning in the lyrics only makes the vocals come through as one more instrument in the array of funky sounds. The package comes with full, amazingly detailed notes on the tunes -- and the set features 20 tracks that include "Nem Biztos Semmi" and "Add Mar Uram Az Esot" by Kati Kovacs, "Egy Lany Nem Ment Haza" by Omega Redstar, "Vegallomas" by Hungaria, "Mondj Egy Meset" by Piramis, "Kergeskezu Favagok" by Locomitiv GT, "A Bolond Lany" by Illes, "Kivanj Te Is Nekem Szep Jo Ejszakat" by Meteor & Demjen Ferenc, "Hetkoznapi Balladak" by Bergendy, "Szevasz Haver" by Skorpio, and "Kinai Fal" by Nemenyi Bela & Atlantis.

new Various -- Welsh Rare Beat -- Lesser Spotted Welsh Obscurities From The Original Sain Back Catalogue ... CD
Finders Keepers (UK), Early 70s. New Copy .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
Amazing grooves from a completely unlike source -- Wales! With a strange language and a windswept location, one would hardly imagine the Welsh groove of the 70s to be anything of note -- but it turns out that the records coming out on the Sain label were even more mindblowing than some of the best baroque French and Italian bits of the time! There's an approach here that's partly acid folk, partly jazzy groove -- but also in a really unique territory that carves out its own space in sound -- similar to the way that Serge Gainsbourg and others of his generation openly reached out to other styles of the time, and forged them into a surprisingly funky batch of tunes. And given that the Welsh language is highly consonant-based, and extremely rhythmic, even when there's not funky backings on some of these tunes, there's still an undeniable sense of groove that really amazing. Even the production is out of this world too -- with strange twists and turns that out-do the best underground talents working at the time -- and which create a real sense of timelessness to these tunes that's also only matched by our joy in discovering them! A real winner from the always-great Finders Keepers label -- and like their Jean-Claude Vannier reissue, the kind of a record that will open your eyes to a whole new world in sound! Titles include "Dwr" by Huw Jones, "Penhryn Gwyn" by Heather Jones, "Breuddwyd" by Bran, "Calan Gaeaf" by Edward H Dafis, "Hwiangerdd" by Eleri Llwyd, "Mathonwy" by Huw Jones, "Chi Sydd Ar Fai" by Nia Ben Aur, "Hedfan" by Gillian Elisa, "Y Crwydryn A Mi" by Meic Stevens, and "Godro'r Fuwch" by Y Tebot Piws.

Various -- Anagram Jam ... CD
Fat City/B- Music (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy .... $15.99
A very weird little compilation -- one made up of the kind of funky, freaky, psychedelic tunes you'd find on the Finders Keepers label -- but mixed up a bit too! There's a very strong Andy Votel vibe going on with the package -- grooves from the kind of cool rare nuggets that Andy's dug up for other compilations, mixed up slightly and messed up too -- and presented with the names of the artists all mixed up, so that each title is an anagram-styled puzzle! Heavy drums and fuzzy guitars rule the scene throughout -- and titles include "Mask It" by CBS Romania, "Gentle Onto God" by Eileen Jawsin, "Run Way" by Ray Wun, "Loop" by Dizcoa, and "A Zebu Nuclear Junco" by Jono Pelicio.

new Various -- Andy Votel Presents Brazilika -- Non Stop Subtropical Psychedelia From The Vaults Of Brazil's Som Livre & RGE ... CD
Far Out (UK), 2008. New Copy .... $15.99
The hippest installment so far in the Brazilika series -- a mad mix of musical styles from Finders Keepers mainman Andy Votel -- all in a freaky, funky, fuzzy blend of sounds! The tracks here are much grittier than the work we're used to hearing from the Far Out label -- as Votel's dug through the 60s and 70s vaults of RGE/Som Livre Records to come up with rare Brazilian rock, funk, and other heavy styles from back in the day! As with Votel's reissues on Finders Keepers, there's a sound here that's informed by beathead record collecting -- a love of older grooves directed by current musical developments -- all with a definite ear for the wilder side of the sound spectrum. Most tracks have a pretty heavy groove -- and the styles run from psychedelic rock through Tropicalia-inspired tunes, to post-bossa, Bahian sounds, and more. Titles include "Funga Funga" by Trio Soneca, "Careta" by Betinho, "Modulo Lunar" by Os Brazoes, "Terra Livre" by Abilio Manoel, "Os Bichos" by Trio Soneca, "De Vera" by Novos Baianos, "Ciladas" by Pery Ribeiro, "Se Voce Pensa" by Moraes Moreira, "Flores Belas" by Tim Maia, "1974" by Gerson Conrad & Zeze Motta, "Gamboa" by Brazilian Octopus, "Deixe Entrar Um Pouco D'Agua No Quintal" by Os Mutantes, "Periscopio" by Azimuth, and "Gotham City" by Os Brazoes.

Various -- Miscellaneous Mutant Mishaps -- 53 Minutes Of Alienated Global Sound Oddities -- Mixed By Dom Thomas ... CD
Brutal (UK), 1960s/1970s/1980s. New Copy .... $15.99
No word at all on the tracks included -- but the set's a heady mix that's right up there with some of the grooviest sets we've heard from the Finders Keepers scene! Like some recent mixes from Andy Votel and others, this one's filled with offbeat tracks from a range of global and temporal sources -- international grooves, tripped-out production, and secret musical corners of the universe -- all brought together beautifully by Dom Thomas, without any care for simple labels or easy to peg genres! There's a fair bit of funk in the mix -- although not the kind you'd hear on American radio in the 70s -- and there also appear to be some cool European 80s grooves too -- balancing out some of the psyche elements with some colder keyboards and beats, which Thomas dips into throughout the mix!

new Various -- B-Music -- Drive In, Turn On, Freak Out ... CD
B- Music (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy .... $15.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Funky psychedelia and multicultural cosmic grooves -- late 60s & early 70s discoveries collected and put together by a team of some of the deepest diggers of boundary busting pulpy material out there --the vital B-Music/Finders Keepers team! new Various -- Polish Funk 3 -- The Unique Selection Of Rare Grooves From Poland Of The 70s ... CD
Polskie Nagrania (Poland), 1970s. New Copy .... $16.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Poland sounds funkier than ever here -- thanks to a really deep-digging selection of grooves from the 70s! As with previous volumes, this one's put together by the Soul Service DJ Team -- and this time around, they seem to really be opening up their bag -- increasing the styles of music offered through an exploration of fusion, vocal jazz, big band, and soul -- all with a deep undercurrent of the funk promised in the title! There's some really wicked tunes with Polish lyrics -- words you probably can't understand, but which are sung with a nicely harsh edge that almost make the tunes feel like Finders Keepers-styled funk. Other tracks are instrumental, and feature lots of heavy bass and drums -- all topped by a range of sounds on horns, keyboards, and guitar! There's loads of grooves here you'll never find digging around your local record store (unless you live in Warsaw!) -- and titles include "Strit" by Poznanska Orkiestra PriTV, "Gold Of 100 Suns" by Grupa Bluesowa Stodola, "Eight Horses Or Forty People" by Gramine, "I'm Looking For A Friend" by Stan Borys, "Return" by Andrezj Dabrowski, "Discoland" by Chorus & Disco Company, "Abandon My Dreams" by Andrzej Zaucha I Dzamble, "I Don't Regret Those Days" by Bogdan Gajkowski, and "Once Was A Couple" by Alibabki. 14 tracks in all.
