Maury Laws & Jules Bass — Original TV Adventures Of King Kong ... LP
Epic, Early 70s. Very Good .... $11.99
A rare document of a short-lived slice of the King Kong myth – a Saturday morning cartoon in which Kong was the friend of some little kids in the jungle, and a much less threatening force than when climbing the Empire State Building! The soundtrack offers capsulized episodes of the show – with music by Jules Bass & Maury Laws, plus narrated adventures by Bob McFadden, voices from the show, and even a bit of sound effects! Adventures include "Under The Volcano", "Dr Who", "The Treasure Trap", and "The African Bees" – as well as nice versions of the cool theme song!
(White label promo. Cover has some light wear, a bit or merker on the back. Label has a bit of marker.)

Various — DJ Muro King Of Diggin' – Diggin' OST ... CD
Octave (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy .... $16.99 28.99
Funky Japanese soundtracks galore – served up by the legendary DJ Muro! Muro's a name we can really trust for mixes of rare American funk and soul – but this time around, he turns his talents towards his homeland, and comes up with an incredible blend of rare Japanese grooves pulled from film scores – the kind of cool cuts we've been digging in the Hotwax & Trax series we've stocked from Ultra Vybe – but all filtered down into one sweet little set by Muro! The package has a whopping 38 tracks in all – all funky, and filled with loads of great beats, basslines, keyboards, and guitar – kind of a perfect distillation of the best cuts from a wide range of rare soundtracks – many of which have been reissued on CD over the years, but which are now out of print. The notes and titles are all in Japanese – but take it from us, the grooves are more than enough – and the set features over 70 minutes of rare funk!

Georges Delerue — Horsemen ... LP
Sunflower, 1971. Near Mint- .... $2.99
The Horsemen is a fairly obscure film that was shot in Afghanistan, and Delerue evokes the landscape in his orchestrations, with subtlety for the most part. Haunting in spots, with bits of harp and dramatic voice arrangements with some grander string bits, too. Titles include "At The Bazaar", "Frustration", "Man Of Great Riches", "The Fair", "Savage Game For A King" and more.

Stu Phillips/Carrie Nations/Strawberry Alarm Clock — Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
20th Century/Harkit (UK), 1970. New Copy Gatefold (reissue).... $18.99
"It's not a sequel – there's never been anything like it." Finally, an awesome reissue of the classically groovy camp soundtrack to "king of the nudies" Russ Meyer's crazy non-sequel to Valley Of The Dolls – one of the greatest exploitation movies of all time! The music is almost unbelievably great for what was essentially supposed to be an X-rated cheapie (little did 20th Century Fox know) – with a wonderfully huge & string heavy score by composer Stu Phillips, insanely groovy, stomping mod rock from the Sandpipers, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and the film's busty real-life Playboy Bunny heroines the Carrie Nations/Kelly Affair! "This is MY happening, and IT FREAKS ME OUT!" Titles include the Carrie Nations tunes "Find It" and "Come With The Gentle People", the Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense & Peppermints" and "I'm Coming Home", the Sandpipers groovy "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls Theme", and tons more.

Simon Fisher Turner — Caravaggio 1610 (with bonus tracks) ... CD
El (UK), 1986. New Copy .... $6.99
A really amazing little soundtrack – darkly subtle, and better almost than the Derek Jarman film for which it was penned! Simon Fischer Turner's been many things over the years – a boy pop idol in 70s England, the King Of Luxembourg in the 80s El Records roster – but he's never sounded more beautiful than here – working in a blend of sound snippets, colors, and tones to illustrate Jarman's moody portrait of the painter Michelangelo Caravaggio. The overall sound of the set is relatively spare – often with just a cello, a piano line, a guitar strum, or some other bit – mixed alongside the chirp of a cricket, the slam of a door, or some other incidental noise – an approach that's wonderfully evocative in its use of space and silence, and which is almost even a further extension of some of the more minimal modes put forward by the Italian scene in the 70s. Titles include "The Hills Of Abruzzi", "Umber Wastes", "In The Still Of The Night", "Michele Of The Shadows", "The Hourglass", and "I Love You More Than My Eyes". CD also features bonus "Easter Week" tracks too!
