CagnetLong Vacation ... CD
EMI, 1996. Used ... $6.99
A well-done batch of music for the initial season of Japanese TV show Long Vacation – served up with a sense of variety and depth that's a great change from American television music for a program of this nature! Cagnet put the whole thing together, but they've got a good sense of variety throughout – shifting singers and styles of music, and moving between vocal numbers and instrumentals that have a nice mix of beats and soundtrack elements. Titles include "Long Vacation" by Anna McMurphy, "Silent Emotion" by Calin, "Little By Little" by Section S, "To Live & Die" by David, "What Will I Do" by Natalie Burks, and the tunes "Tiny Tale", "Back Ground", and "Short Wave Radio". ✨✧ John BarryFrom Russia With Love (expanded editon) ... CD
MGM/EMI, 1963. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of John Barry's earliest scores for Bond – when his style was nice and raw, and when the Bond theme couldn't be heard enough throughout the course of the movie! Matt Munro sings the lyrics to the forgotten title hit – and other tracks include "James Bond Theme", "Tania Meets Klebb", "Guitar Lament", "Spectre Island", "Stalking", "Death Of Kerin", and "007 Takes The Lektor". Plus, the CD contains bonus cuts – for a total of 18 tracks in all! CD

✨✧ Chipmunks/David SevilleAlvin Show ... CD
Liberty/EMI, 1961. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Pretty cool stuff – one of the only relics of the early 60s animated Chipmunks show! Features the great main theme, and even some comedy bits from the show, mixed with songs. Steer clear of Clyde Crashcup, and you'll be fine! (Children's, Soundtracks) CD
(Out of print.)

✨✧ Francesco De Masi7 Winchester Per Un Massacro ... CD
EMI/Soundtrack Listeners (Japan), 1968. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Haunting western work from Francesco De Masi – a film score that mixes nice bits of electric guitar and bass in with the larger orchestrations! A number of tracks here also used some great harmonica, too – very much in the best Morricone-styled sound of the period, but warmed up in different directions by some of De Masi's string-based backdrops. The main theme – "Seven Men" – is a doozy – and other tracks include "The Pursuit", "To Durango", "The Massacre", "Stagecoach Attack", "The Night Attack", "Bandits", and "The Man Without A Home". Great Japanese pressing – with 22 tracks in all! CD
(Out of print, includes obi.)

✨✧ Sex PistolsGreat Rock & Roll Swindle ... CD
EMI, 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
The soundtrack to the Sex Pistols quote/unquote documentary The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle – a crazy mess of Pistols odds, ends and quote/unquote hits – including Sid's crazy-as-hell take on Sinatra, the weird quote/unquote French version of "Anarchy In The UK" and miscellaneous errata. Definitely one of weirdest chapters of Sex Pistols lore, which kind makes it a necessity! Includes "Johnny B Goode", "Road Runner", "Anarchy In The UK", "Substitute", "Lonely Boy", "God Save The Queen", "You Need Hands", "Black Arabs", "Silly Things", "Something Else", "My Way", "The Great Rock 'N'Roll Swindle" and more. ✨✧ Ennio MorriconeThe Good, The Bad, & The Ugly – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Capitol/EMI, 1966. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the first big moments of global fame for the legendary Ennio Morricone – and a record that still stands as one of his landmark albums all these many years later! The set's famous for its haunting theme – that "wah-wah-wah" melody that led to countless covers and samples over the years – but the whole thing's a lot more complex than just that tune – with lots of the same sense of space and brooding that Morricone brought to his music for Once Upon A Time In The West – with careful use of key instruments on a track by track basis, and these floating lines that almost signaled a whole new way of recording music for a film soundtrack. And yes, there's certainly key western elements like guitar or harmonica – but maybe more striking are all the points at which these obvious tropes disappear – to leave us with those really unique Morricone sounds that go way beyond music! Titles include "The Sundown", "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly", "Marcia", "The Desert", "The Strong", and "The Trio". CD

✨✧ Nelson RiddleOklahoma/Can Can ... CD
EMI (UK), 1955/1960. Used ... Out Of Stock
Nelson Riddle offers his interpretation of 2 great musical soundtracks – Oklahoma and Can Can – both served up here with the usual Riddle flair! Oklahoma's taken at a slightly more serious pace – one that emphasizes the broad themes and dramatic passages of the original score – and which has a bit more strings than Riddle's usual work. Can Can is lighter and jazzier – thanks to solo work from Harry Klee, Cappy Lewis, and George Roberts – all of whom bring in a more playful feel overall, and allow for the kind of Riddle-ish style you'd expect! CD features 23 tracks that include "Many A New Day", "I Can't Say No", "Poor Jud Is Dead", "Out Of My Dreams", "The Farmer & The Cowman", "You Do Something To Me", "Allez Vous En Go Away", "Let's Do It", "Live & Let Live", and "Can Can". Eumir Deodato, Tom Jobim, & OthersBossa Nova – Original Soundtrack ... CD
Polygram (Brazil), 2000. Used ... $3.99
Kind of a painful movie, but a pretty sweet soundtrack! The set features a number of new works produced by Deodato, very much in the spirit of his Inutil Paisagem 60s bossa recordings – with wonderfully complex airy melodies, and a touch so light you can't believe there's actually a conscious act behind the music. The new titles feature vocals by Barbara Mendes and Carol Rogers – and include "Samba De Uma Nota So", "Mary Ann's Theme", "Suddenly", "Soul Mates", "Amor Em Paz", and "Juan's Theme". Most of the rest of the CD features older work from Jobim's years at Verve and CTI – including the tracks "Wave", "Aguas De Marco", "Chega De Saudade", and "Inutil Paisagem". Also features a semi-painful duet between Jobim and Sting – ouch! (Brazil, Soundtracks) CD

Jerry GoldsmithIllustrated Man – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Film Score Monthly, 1969. Used ... $11.99
A haunting score from Jerry Goldsmith – filled with dark and turgid orchestrations, set as the rich backdrop for this 1969 film based on the Ray Bradbury story of the same name! The scoring is often atonal, with lots of off-kilter string passage that have an eerie sound that reminds us of Morricone's more avant-styled work. The CD features 17 tracks from the film, plus notes on the music, and some great images – with titles that include "The Rain", "The Sun Dance", "The House", "The Illustrations", and "Angry Child". CD
(Out of print.)
