It's a Capitol Rare Christmas – thanks to producer/
arranger Larry Farrow and a host of great guest artists! The session is very much in the spirit of the classic Funky Christmas set on Atco
from the late 70s – an update of the holiday song style for the hip urban contemporary listener of the late 70s – one that brings the spirit of the season to the rising spirits of the African American middle class of the time, with a smooth batch of tunes that are a nice alternative to Der Bingle and Dino! Farry arranged, produced, and conducts – and vocalists on the session include Nancy Wilson, Gene Harbin, Quinin Williams, Elaine Norwood, and The Shades Of Love. Nearly all the tunes are original numbers – written with a mix of boogie rhythms and mellower styles that are almost in a Lou Rawls sort of Philly mode. Titles include "Let This Be A Merry Christmas", "It's The Happiest Time Of Year", "You Know It's Christmas", "It's A Sho Nuff Boogie Down Sock It To Me Sleigh Ride", and "Let This Be A Merry Christmas".
