✨✧ Dead KennedysFresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables ... LP
Cherry Red (UK), 1980. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Landmark work from The Dead Kennedys – and maybe still one of the greatest punk records to ever come from the American scene! There's so much here that so many other records are missing – razor-sharp instrumentation, a great sense of pacing, and most importantly, a biting wit that always keeps the whole thing from ever lapsing into any sort of over-serious cliches! Yet unlike their LA contemporaries, the group were also never ones to just lay into the jokes – as the political commentary here is especially pointed, and nearly every single song is a blistering attack on late 70s California mores and national obsessions. Every track's a gem – and titles include "Kill The Poor", "Forward To Death", "Let's Lynch The Landlord", "Your Emotions", "Holiday In Cambodia", "California Uber Alles", and "Stealing People's Mail" – plus a killer cover of "Viva Las Vegas". ✨✧ Creedence Clearwater RevivalBayou Country ... LP
Fantasy, 1969. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Creedence Clearwater Revival may not have actually been born on the bayou – they were long-timers in the San Francisco scene of the 60s – but they do a hell of a job of reinventing swamp rock on this second stunning album! The quartet are a masterpiece of spare, unbridled power – the tremendous guitar and vocals of John Fogerty, strong rhythm guitar support of brother Tom, driving drums of Doug Clifford, and rolling bass of Stu Cook – all forged into a sound that's maybe more perfectly a summation of the blend of blues, funk, rock, and soul than some of the groups of the south were turning out at the time. Tracks include the huge hits "Born On The Bayou" and "Proud Mary" – sitting nicely alongside even more compelling numbers like "Bootleg", "Graveyard Train", "Penthouse Pauper", and "Keep On Chooglin". English BeatI Just Can't Stop It ... LP
Sire, 1980. Very Good ... $16.99
The American debut of The English Beat – aka the UK group The Beat, who'd been making some big waves with import 45s on the 2Tone label, the burst forth on our US market with a slight shift in name, due to another group hogging their original moniker on our side of the Atlantic! That bit of backstory hardly need matter, though – as the group wear their English loud and proud here, setting off a huge ska revival as they blend Jamaican roots with London attitude in the post-punk years – stacking up a set of classics that continue to groove many turntables all these many years later. Titles include "Mirror In The Bathroom", "Hands Off She's Mine", "Twist & Crawl", "Big Shot", "Best Friend", and "Jackpot". LP, Vinyl record album
(US pressing. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has surface and edge wear.)
Also available I Just Can't Stop It (magenta vinyl pressing) ... LP 22.99

Ronnie HawkinsHawk (1971) ... LP
Cotillion, 1971. Near Mint- ... $14.99
A searing set of southern rock from Ronnie Hawkins – already working here in a revivalist mode of sorts, with backing from the Dixie Flyers and a real blend of Atlantic and Capricorn-styled approaches to rock. Duane Allman and Donald Duck Dunn both sit in on the sessions, and the whole thing's got a relaxed, rootsy rock feel overall – Ronnie singing along with the Flyers on tunes that include "Red Rooster", "Ooby Dooby", "Don't Tell Me Your Troubles", "Drinkin Wine Spo-dee-o-dee", "Lonely Weekends", "Treasure Of Love", and "The Lady Came From Baltimore". LP, Vinyl record album
(Promo. Cover has a cutout notch, light edge wear, and bumped corners.)

Joni MitchellFor The Roses ... LP
Asylum, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $19.99
A sometimes-overlooked album in the career of Joni Mitchell – but a set that's every bit as great as the two huge hits that bracket it! Joni's really finding a great way forward, sounding more mature, and bringing some jazzier currents into her music – thanks in part to help from reedman Tom Scott and bassist Wilton Felder of The Crusaders – and a style of songwriting that's sometimes more fluid than before, and often a lot more biting too! Titles include "Woman Of Heart & Mind", "You Turn Me On I'm A Radio", "For The Roses", "Barbangrill", "Cold Blue Steel & Sweet Fire", "Let The Wind Carry Me", "Lesson In Survival", and "Judgement Of The Moon & Stars". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing with PR suffix. Cover has light wear and is split at the top 2 inches and faded at the spine.)

YesYes ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good ... $9.99
The monumental first album from Yes – a group who were already onto something amazing with this set, and would only get better and better in years to come! The members had backgrounds in straighter, more conventional rock acts – but here, together, they unleash work with a wonderfully fresh sense of timing and structure – tunes that are still a bit shorter in comparison to later albums, but already full of the kind of complicated shifts and changes that instantly set Yes apart from the rest! And yet there's also a simple, honest approach too – not complexity for its own sake, as the group never find themselves in blind alleys or dead ends – and maintain this magical mix of elements that soars from track to track. The early lineup here features trademark vocals from Jon Anderson, alongside the bass of Chris Squire, guitars of Peter Banks, organ and piano of Tony Kaye, and drums of Bill Bruford – on titles that include "Harold Land", "Beyond & Before", "I See You", "Looking Around", "Sweetness", "Survival", and "Every Little Thing". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original 1841 Broadway label pressing. Cover has a half split top seam, light ring wear, spot of marker. The back cover has a few pieces of yellowed tape on the paste-on.)

✨✧ Frank Zappa/Mothers Of InventionAbsolutely Free ... LP
Verve, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $29.99
One of the most mindblowing pop culture pastiches of the 60s – a record that's as absolutely mad as it is absolutely free – and proof that a whole new generation of musicians like Zappa were using the studio like an instrument itself! This is work that could have never existed away from record – as the mix of sounds, moods, and music comes together with a maddening frenzy – hardly the languid speed you'd expect from the early years of hippiedom – and instead, an inspirational stream of styles and ideas delivered with trademark Zappa dexterity and wit! The album's divided into two long passages – "Absolutely Free" and "The MOI American Pageant" – with tracks that include "Plastic People", "Amnesia Vivace", "The Duke Regains His Chops", "America Drinks & Goes Home", "Son Of Suzy Creamcheese", "Status Back Baby", and "The Duke Of Prunes". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo MGM pressing. Cover has touch of light wear, but is great overall!)

VariousRockabilly – Great British Rock N Roll ... LP
RCA (France), Late 70s. Near Mint- ... $9.99 14.99
A compelling collection of work from the UK rockabilly revival of the late 70s – quite a surprise, given that these sounds were happening at the same time as punk! Includes work by Hotfoot Gale, Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers, Rock Island Line, Matchbox, and Screamin Lord Sutch! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Steely DanGaucho ... LP
MCA, 1980. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The last album in the classic run of Steely Dan – the final taste we'd have of the group until their surprising revival in the 90s! Gaucho picks up beautifully where Aja left off – warmly produced with a deep undercurrent of jazz, but perhaps a bit more down to earth feel at times too – not in the music, which is still up there in the heavens, but in some of the subject matter of the tunes, which almost takes us back to Royal Scam territory. Donald Fagan's vocals are wonderful throughout – a sound for which there's no referent or real description – and the balance in the instrumentation is near perfect on tunes that include "Babylon Sisters", "Hey Nineteen", "Time Out Of Mind", "My Rival", "Glamour Profession", and "Gaucho". LP, Vinyl record album
(US pressing with Masterdisk/RL etch. Includes the heavy inner sleeve. Cover has light staining on the opening and some light wear.)

✨✧ Red CrayolaSoldier Talk ... LP
Radarscope (UK), 1979. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A key record in the revival of Red Crayola – a set done at a time when Mayo Thompson had relocated to the UK scene, and having a surprisingly big influence there! The set features some guest help from members of Pere Ubu – and titles include "On The Brink", "Letter Bomb", "Discipline", "X", "Wonderland", and "An Opposition Spokesman". LP, Vinyl record album
(UK Radarscope pressing, in great shape! Back cover has one small ripped part, but front looks great.)

✨✧ Savage RoseRefugee ... LP
RCA/Gregar, 1971. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An obscure early 70s European group, with a sound that's a bit rootsy, and a bit folksy – blended together with some heavier rock touches of the time! The most enigmatic side of the group is lead singer Anisette, who sings in a raspy style that's partially Janis Joplin, partially Billie Holiday – and the instrumentation on the set includes organ and piano by Anders and Thomas Koppel, respectively. Titles include "Dreamland", "Walking In The Line", "Revival Day", "Ballad Of Gale", "Granny's Grave", and "And I Dream". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original US pressing, with inner sleeve!)

Chrysalis, 1983. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Here's how most of the kids in America had to get their revivalist ska during the 80s! Classic stuff nearly all the way through – with the cuts "Gangsters" by The Specials AKA, "Jungle Music" by Rico, "Madness" by Madness, " On My Radio" and "Too Much Pressure" by Selecter, "Rankin Full Stop" by English Beat", and "Ghost Town", "Message To You Rudi", "Stereotype", "Do Nothing" by The Specials! ✨✧ VariousWayfaring Strangers – Ladies From The Canyon ... LP
Numero, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A sweet collection of early 70s female post folk revival material – independent and long lost recordings from unknowns that used folk and psychedelia as offerings to each singer's idiosyncratic muse – and another incredible collection of deeply sought rare tunes from the Numero Group! Numero really blows us away with their ability to seek out and lovingly reissue lost recordings – and package them in beautiful and insightful collections – and this one is as impressive as anything they've done to date. It features singer songwriters from sleepy midwestern Illinois and Minnesota, to the enlightened, heightened Bay, and points between and beyond – with songs from records originally pressed in runs of 500 to 5000. The music is warm, groovy and sincere as can be, much of it surprisingly timeless! Includes: "A Special Path" by Becky Severson, "Cricket" by Collie Ryan, "Sunlight Shadow" by Linda Rich, "Engram" by Caroline Peyton, "And I A Fairytale Lady" by Carla Sciaky, "Window" by Judy Kelly, "Dedication" by Mary Perrin, "Rain" by Marj Snyder, "Wildman" by Ginny Reilly. (Folk/Country, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the booklet.)

✨✧ Allman BrothersIdlewild South ... LP
Capricorn, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The second album from the Allman Brothers, and maybe the one where their sound really comes together – an incredibly chromatic approach to long-spun work on guitar – almost influenced by jazz at times, and definitely very different than some of the more jamming work of the scenes on the coasts at the time! The group really let the tunes open up and flow – brimming over with so much sublime guitar work from Greg Allman, already a very distinct voice on his instrument – matched with more guitar from Dicky Betts, and given all these warm organ lines from Greg Allman, whose vocals are wonderful too. This may not have been the first record to try to find a southern voice in modern rock, but it's definitely one of the most crucial – as you'll hear on titles that include the classic "Midnight Rider" – plus "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Revival", "Don't Keep Me Wonderin", "Hoochie Coochie Man", and "Please Call Home". ✨✧ Chico Magnetic BandChico Magnetic Band ... LP
Vogue (France), 1971. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A French group from the 70s, but one with a lead singer from Tunisia – the freaky-looking Mahmoud Ayari, who's got his feet up on the cover! The group are fiercely jamming – with a really heavy, driving percussion approach, and lots and lots of freaky guitar fuzz – often used in these really dark ways, which then seems to bring out even more darkness from Ayari's vocals – which act almost like loud calls to action than standard lyrics! A number of tunes are heavy on the instrumental section – which makes for even more great focus on the excellent guitar – and titles include "To Where I Belong", "Lot Of Things", "Explosion", "We All Come & Go", and "My Sorrow" – plus two tunes with really great special effects from Jean Pierre Massiera – "Pop Orbite" and "Pop Pull Hair". ✨✧ Jesus & Mary ChainPsychocandy ... LP
Reprise, 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A huge record in its day and it hasn't aged a minute since! On Psychocandy the Reid brothers took all the underground Brit indie psych revival modes and filtered them through the Velvet Underground at their noisiest, then paired melodies learned from sources as sweet as 60s Wall Of Sound pop and the Beach Boys to ferociously fuzzy guitars – and stunning found a way to spring this onto to fringes of the mainstream on both sides of the Atlantic! Hugely influential – a record that points the way towards sounds so many would soon follow. Titles include "In A Hole", "The Hardest Walk", "Taste The Floor", "Just Like Honey", "Never Understand", and "You Trip Me Up". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ King CrimsonThree Of A Perfect Pair ... LP
Warner/EG, 1984. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The last of the "revival" King Crimson from the early 80s – featuring the lineup that included Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, and Tony Levin. The style is fairly academic, but Belew's presence still gives the record a bit of heart – something that Fripp had trouble doing on his own, even after all these years. Titles include "Dig Me", "Industry", "Lark's Tongue In Aspic Part 3", "Three Of a Perfect Pair", and "Sleepless". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ MummiesPlay Their Own Records ... LP
Estrus, Early 90s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Garage rock revivalism of the first order – dusty 90s blasts by the mighty Mummies that sound like they could have been cut decades earlier, or later, for that matter – on vinyl, as nature intended! Fuzzy, low fi, monstrously shambling awesomeness from San Francisco's anti-scenester garage rock nasties – recorded as cheaply as possible, as the Pharaohs decreed. Titles include "That Girl", "Test Drive", "I'm Bigger Than You", "Foood, Sickles And Girls", "One By One", "Tall Cool One", "Die!", "The House On The Hill" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ CrampsDate With Elvis ... LP
Big Beat (UK), 1986. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the best full lengths by The Cramps! By the time A Date With Elvis came out in the mid 80s, The Cramps had pretty much perfected their wild mix of ghoulish innuendo and truly devoted roots rock/garage revivalism. The sex club and monster movie imagery was for show, but their love of rootsy rumbles was no joke! The record is dedicated to the memory of Ricky Nelson and the dedication is not ironic. Great, ghoulish Cramps at their mid-decade peak. Oh, and by the way. . .Elvis couldn't have handled a date with Ivy. She'd have wrecked that boy. Includes "How Far Can I Go?", "The Hot Pearl Snatch", "People Ain't No Good", "What's Inside A Girl?", "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?", "Kizmiaz", "Aloha From Hell", "Cornfed Dames" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
