Dimlite — Grimm Reality ... CD
Now Again, 2011. New Copy .... $4.99 17.98
The third and perhaps best album yet for Swiss beatcrafter and all around soundscape adventurer Dimlite! To date, Dimlite has colored from as broad of a sonic palette as just about anyone in the contemporary electronic scene – taking cues from classic art rock and experimental pop, psych and jazz, the sound that's not easy to pin down or predict where it will go next. It's also insistently engaging at all times, and feels purposefully hypnotic from for first second of each track. The beats are pretty heavy for the most part, too, often surround by bubbling synth and thick bass for a something of a future funk vibe. Includes "You Very Rich Believer", "Pour Some Blood, We Got This", "Blur, Blur, Blur, Blur, Blur", "Healing A Random Tyrant", "New, Better Pain", "Yes, Welcome", "Than Them", "Fridge Note", "One Of Uh Infinity's Countless Uh Tiny Cycles", "Heroine Roof" and more.

Dexter Story — Seasons ... CD
Kindred Spirits (Netherlands), 2012. New Copy .... $18.99
A beautiful project from the contemporary underground scene in LA – a record that shares lots of energy and musicians with recordings by Build An Ark and Life Force Trio! Dexter Story's the main force behind the record, but the set's a strongly collaborative effort – and features keyboards from Mark De Clive-Lowe, flute from Derf Reklaw, strings from Mighel Atwood-Ferguson, vocals from Dwight Trible, and key studio work from Carlos Nino! Story's vocals and overall conception are wonderful – soaring and soulful, with some slight cosmic touches that give the record a bit more crackle than related projects – a sound that's still steeped in spiritual jazz elements, yet which also really opens up as the set rolls on. There's a wonderful sense of variety to the tracks – due to the shifting lineup – but the overall feel is still very cohesive, and an amazing demonstration of Story's bold musical vision. Titles include "Seasons", "Into The Hour", "Love Force Trio (part 1)", "Underway", "Water Bearer", "Paddle Boat", "Bloop Drip", "Gyre Song", "As Is", "God Sun", and "Suijin".
Also available: Seasons ... LP $18.99

Thelema — Hearing The Light ... CD
Cineploit (Austria), 2012. New Copy .... $11.99
A cinematic cover, and some cinematic music to match – one of the moodiest projects we've heard from the contemporary underground of artists inspired by older film soundtracks! Keyboards are the dominant instrument here – often used in spare, snakey ways that recall older European cinema – but with a quality that's less scene-setting than just purely musical – sometimes groovy, sometimes a lot more stark and atmospheric. There's a few moments of spoken Icelandic dialogue – and titles include "Ljos", "Close Your Eyes & See", "Become A Hearer", "Grey Evening", and "Still Hearing The Light".

new Blundetto — Warm My Soul ... LP
Heavenly Sweetness (France), 2012. New Copy 2LP Gatefold .... $26.99 Out Of Stock
Blundetto's groove is even nicer than before – honed through their work on singles and remix efforts – and turned towards a rich array of global roots that really deepen the sound of this album! There's as much 70s African and Jamaican influence going on here as there is a spiritual jazz side – both filtered through 21st Century modes that rework the primal elements, and come up with a fresh new groove – yet one that's always respectful to the originators! Guests on the set include the Akale Horns, Shawn Lee, Tommy Guerrero, and Jahdan Blackkamoore – and titles include "Hercules", "Rocroy", "It's All About", "Walk Away Now", "Treat Me Like That", and "I'll Be Home Later".
(Really great limited heavy vinyl pressing – with cool textured fabric cover!)

new Turn On The Sunlight (Carlos Nino &Jesse Peterson) — Turn On The Sunlight ... CD
Disques Corde (Japan), 2010. Used .... $2.99 Out Of Stock
Some of the most gently crafted and most psychedelic folk flavored material we've heard to date from the ever eclectic, always worthwhile oeuvre of Carlos Nino – working here as a duo with multi-instrumentalist Jesse Peterson! Carlos and Jesse have worked together before, on the High With A Little Help From My Friends album, but the vibe hear is more forthrightly psych folk – acoustic guitar, be it plaintive and direct or layered and atmospheric – with vocals often prominent in the mix, it's a real song based effort. It's excellent stuff, surely influenced by the leftfield, freewheeling folk rock of the late 60s through early 70s, but with a timeless, exploratory vibe of its own. Includes "Turn On The Sunlight", "Always Enough, Oh Magnificent Nature", "La Rima Del Mar", "Sonar (Wall Of Hearers)", "Requiem For Lois", "Dream Beams", "Love Chant", "Blue Sky Writing", "Big Sur Foghorn" and more.

new Blundetto — Bad Bad Things ... LP
Heavenly Sweetness (France), 2010. New Copy 2LP .... $19.99 Out Of Stock
The first full length from Blundetto – a Parisian radio programmer and artist showing impeccable taste here – with a slyly dubby and reggae & soul influenced groove and featuring collaborations with The Budos Band horns, Chico Mann, Tommy Guerrero, Lateef The Truthspeaker, Shawn Lee, Genreal Elektricks and Hindi Zahra! Blundetto shares compositional credits with the guest, and it has the feel of collaboration with that atmopherically soulful core groove. Really nice work for the Heavenly Sweetness label! Titles including the Blundetto cover of the Bob James classic "Nautilus" plus "Voices", "Mustang", "Mi Condena", "Cuban Shirt", "Party Animals". "White Birds", "Ken Park", "My One Girl", "Bad BadThings" and "Sunset Stroll".
